What Oftagel Is And What It Is Used For

Oftel is a tear substitute used to relieve symptoms caused by dry eyes, e.g. burning or gravel in the eye. It acts as the natural tear fluid and moisturizes and lubricates the eye so that the discomfort disappears.

Carbomer found in Oftagel may also be approved for the treatment of other conditions not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professionals if you have any further questions, and always follow their instructions.

What You Need To Know Before Using Oftagel

Do Not Use Oftagel

  • If you are allergic to carbomer or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Children And Young People

Clinical experience shows safety and efficacy in children and adolescents with the same use and dosage of Oftagel eye gel as in adults, but there are no results from clinical trials.

Other Medicines And Oftagel

When using other medicines in the eye at the same time, Oftagel eye drops should always be taken at the latest and the earliest 15 minutes after the other medicines.

Pregnancy And Breastfeeding

There are no known risks associated with pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Driving And Using Machines

Blurred vision can occur temporarily, which should be taken into account when driving a car or when using machines.

Oftagel Contains Benzalkonium Chloride

This medicine contains approximately 0.002 mg of benzalkonium chloride per drop corresponding to 0.06 mg/g.

Benzalkonium chloride can be absorbed by soft contact lenses and may discolor the contact lenses. Remove contact lenses before using the medicine and wait at least 15 minutes before re-inserting the contact lenses.

Benzalkonium chloride can be irritating to the eyes, especially if you have dry eyes or problems with the cornea (the clear membrane at the front of the eye). If you experience irritation, tingling, or pain in the eye after using the medicine, consult a doctor.

How To Use Oftagel

Oftagel uses

  • Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
  • The recommended dose is one drop of Oftagel in the eye 1-4 times a day as needed. Other dosages according to doctor’s prescription.

Use For Children And Adolescents

Before Oftagel uses

  • Wash your hands
  • Choose the position that feels most natural to you (eg sit down, lie on your back, stand in front of a mirror)

Application:

1. Open the bottle. Avoid touching anything with the drip tip so that the contents are not contaminated.

2. Tilt your head back and hold the bottle above your eye.

Gently lower the lower eyelid, look up, and press a drop into the eye.

4. Blink a few times so that the drop spreads. Close the bottle.

If You Use More Tagalel Than You Should 

If you have ingested too much medicine or if e.g. If a child has ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for risk assessment and advice.

If You Forget To Use Oftagel

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If You Stop Using Oftagel

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.

Possible Oftagel Side Effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • Temporary short-term blurred vision
  • Burning
  • Irritation of the eye

May occur in connection with the drug being dropped into the eye.

Oftagel eye drops contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative. Benzalkonium chloride may cause eye irritation.

How to store Oftagel

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the label and carton. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.
  • Opened bottle should be used within 4 weeks.
  • Store at a maximum of 25 ° C in the outer carton (photosensitive).
  • The package is stored upside down for better dripping.
  • Do not use this medicine if it shows signs of deterioration.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
