What Recikalc-D forte is and what it is used for

Recikalc-D forte is used to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D3 deficiency in the elderly, and as an adjunctive treatment for osteoporosis ( osteoporosis ) when calcium and vitamin D3 deficiency are present or suspected.

Recikalc-D forte contains calcium and vitamin D3, both of which are important substances for new bone formation. Vitamin D3 regulates the uptake and metabolism of calcium as well as the storage of calcium in the skeleton.

Calcium/vitamin D contained in Recikalc-D forte may also be approved for the treatment of other conditions not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or another healthcare professional if you have any further questions, and always follow their instructions.

What you need to know before using Recikalc-D forte

Do not use Recikalc-D forte

  • if you have hypercalcemia (increased amount of calcium in the blood) or hypercalciuria (increased amount of calcium in the urine).
  • if you have kidney stones.
  • if you have calcification in the kidney tissue.
  • if you have hypervitaminosis D (an excess of vitamin D in your blood).
  • if you have severe renal impairment / renal failure.
  • if you are allergic to calcium, cholecalciferol ( Vitamin D), or any of the other ingredients (listed in section 6).

Warnings and cautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Recikalc-D forte if you:

  • suffers from sarcoidosis (a special type of connective tissue disease that affects the lungs, skin, and joints, among other things).
  • use other medicines that contain calcium or vitamin D.
  • have impaired kidney function or a high tendency to get kidney stones.
  • becomes bedridden or sedentary and is brittle.

Children and young people

Do not give this medicine to children and adolescents as there is no relevant use in this age group.

Other medicines and Recikalc-D forte

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.

The treatment effect of Recikalc-D forte can be affected if taken concomitantly with certain other medicines;

  • high blood pressure (thiazide diuretics)
  • irregular heartbeat (cardiac glycosides such as digoxin )
  • high blood fats (cholestyramine)
  • constipation ( laxatives such as paraffin oil)
  • epilepsy ( phenytoin or barbiturates )
  • inflammatory conditions / impaired immunity ( cortisone )

The treating physician, therefore, needs to be aware of such concomitant medication. The dosage of one of your medications may need to be adjusted.

How to take medicines used at the same time as Recikalc-D forte

If you are taking certain medicines at the same time;

  • osteoporosis (bisphosphonates)
    you should take these preparations at least one hour before taking the Recikalc-D forte
  • infection ( quinolones )
    , you should take these preparations two hours before or six hours after taking the Recikalc-D forte.
  • infection ( tetracyclines )
    you should take these two hours before or four to six hours after taking the Recikalc-D forte.
  • caries (sodium fluoride)
    , you should take these preparations at least three hours before taking the Recikalc-D forte.
  • hypothyroidism (levothyroxine)
    , allow at least four hours between the intake of Recikalc-D forte and levothyroxine.

Calcium salts can reduce the absorption of iron, zinc, and strontium ranelate. Therefore, preparations containing iron, zinc, or strontium ranelate should be taken at least two hours before or after ingestion of Recikalc-D forte.

Orlistat (used to treat obesity) may affect the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, e.g. vitamin D3.

Recikalc-D forte with food and drink

Calcium uptake into the body can be inhibited by foods containing oxalic acid (found in spinach and rhubarb, for example) and phytic acid (found in whole grains, for example). You should wait at least two hours after eating foods high in oxalic acid or phytic acid before taking the Recikalc-D forte.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, the daily intake of calcium and vitamin D supplements in healthy pregnant women should not exceed 1500 mg of calcium and 600 IU (15 micrograms) of vitamin D3. Recikalc-D forte should therefore not be used to prevent calcium and vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy but can be used by pregnant women who are at high risk of developing or already have a deficiency of calcium and vitamin D.

Recikalc-D forte can be used during breastfeeding. Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk. This should be considered when giving vitamin D supplements to the baby.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines

Recikalc-D forte has no known effects on the ability to drive and use machines.

Recikalc-D forte contains sucrose

One tablet Recikalc-D forte contains 1.8 mg sucrose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

Sodium content

This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per tablet, ie essentially ‘sodium-free’.

How to use Recikalc-D forte

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

The recommended dose is 1 tablet daily. The tablets can be swallowed whole, divided, or crushed.

The amount of calcium in Recikalc-D forte is lower than the usual recommended daily intake. Recikalc-D forte is thus intended for people in need of vitamin D supplements, but who through the diet have a calcium intake of 500-1000 mg of calcium per day. Calcium intake should be calculated by the prescribing physician.

If you take more Recikalc-D forte than you should

If you have ingested too much medicine or if e.g. If a child has inadvertently ingested the medicine, contact a doctor, hospital, or the Poison Information Center (tel. 112) immediately for assessment of the risk and advice.

Symptoms of overdose of Recikalc -D forte are loss of appetite, thirst, increased urine output, nausea, vomiting, and constipation.

If you forget to take Recikalc-D forte

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Recikalc-D can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Stop taking Recikalc-D forte and contact a doctor immediately if you get any of the following symptoms of a severe allergic reaction

  • swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • difficulty swallowing
  • hives and difficulty breathing

Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): hypercalcemia (increased amount of calcium in the blood) and/or hypercalciuria (increased amount of calcium in the urine).

Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): constipation, bloating, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, pruritus, rash, and urticaria ( hives ).

Has been reported (occurs in an unknown number of users): Severe allergic reactions.

Special patient group

Patients with renal impairment are at risk of high levels of phosphate in the blood (usually giving no symptoms), kidney stones, and calcification of the kidney tissue (possible symptoms are blood in the urine, back pain, or stomach pain).

How to store Recikalc-D forte

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Used before the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Do not store above 25 ° C. Store in the original package. Close the package tightly. Sensitive to light and moisture.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Empty packaging can be recycled via the Packaging Collection. The jar and lid are sorted as hard plastic packaging.

Content declaration

  • The active substances are calcium carbonate 1300 mg equivalent to calcium 500 mg and cholecalciferol 20 micrograms equivalent to 800 IU vitamin D3.
  • The other ingredients are maltodextrin, sucrose 1.8 mg, all -rac -alpha-tocopherol, croscarmellose sodium, anhydrous colloidal silica, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol, and paraffin. Medium-chain triglycerides, sodium starch octenyl succinate, silica, and sodium ascorbate. See also section 2 ‘Recikalc-D forte contains sucrose’ and ‘Sodium content’.

What the medicine looks like and the contents of the pack

Recikalc-D forte is a film-coated tablet that is white, oval, and engraved with R150.

Pack sizes: 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 90, 100, and 180 tablets in HDPE plastic jar with an HDPE screw cap.

Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
