What Postafen Is And What It Is Used For

Meclozine, which is an anti histamine, dampens the functions of the inner ear that have to do with balance and thus affects nausea and vomiting. The effect time is about 12 hours.

Postafen tablets is used for adults, adolescents, and children over the age of 6 for motion sickness (car, bus, flight, and seasickness).

Meclozine found in Postafen 25 mg uses may also be approved for the treatment of other

disease not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or another healthcare professional if you have any further qustions, and always follow their instructions.

What You Need To Know Before Using!

Do Not Use!

  • if you are allergic to meclizine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6) or to any piperazine derivative (a group of antihistamines ).
  • if you have impaired liver function.

Warnings And Cautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Postafen 25 mg English if you:

  • Have difficulty urinating
  • Has glaucoma
  • Know that you have a narrowing in the stomach mouth (pylorus stenosis)
  • Experiencing decreased bowel movements
  • Has severe muscle weakness ( myasthenia gravis )
  • Have dementia
  • Have epilepsy
  • Has severe renal impairment

The elderly are often sensitive to the anticholinergic effects of Meclozine Hydrochloride. 

These effects can cause

  • Dry mouth
  • Decreased sweating
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Constipation
  • Increased heart rate

Therefore, a lower dose is recommended for the elderly at the beginning of treatment.

You should not use alcohol with Meclozine Hydrochloride.

If you take Postafen 25 mg at the same time as certain other medicines, such as medicines that suppress the central nervous system, atropine-like medicines (anticholinergics), or so-called MAO inhibitors (used to treat depression or Parkinson’s disease ), you may have an enhanced effect and thus increase the risk of side effect ar.

Do not take for the next 4 days before an allergy test, as the result of the test may be misleading.

Other Medicines And Meclozine Hydrochloride

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
Talk to your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines. Meclozine Hydrochloride may potentiate the effect of these agents and a dose change may be necessary:

  • Drugs that suppress the central nervous system (some sedatives, some medicines for severe pain or epilepsy )
  • Anticholinergics (eg some antispasmodics or some medicines for stomach or respiratory problems), other medicines with anticholinergic effects, or MAO inhibitors (medicines for depression or Parkinson’s disease ).

Postafen With Food, Drink, And Alcohol

Meclozine Hydrochloride should not be used with alcohol.

Postafen Pregnancy And Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Postafen can be used during pregnancy, with a recommended maximum dose of 2 tablets daily.

Postafen is likely to pass into breast milk and therefore postafen should not be used during breastfeeding.

Driving And Using Machines

Postafen can impair the ability to react and the ability to concentrate, which should be kept in mind at times when sharper attention is required, for example when driving a car and precision work. Concomitant use of Postafen and alcohol or sedatives enhances these effects. Therefore, the combination should be avoided.

You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires sharpened attention. One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and/or side effects.

Postafen Contains Lactose

Postafen contains lactose . If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

Postafen 25 mg Uses

Always use this medicine as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

You should take the tablet by mouth with a meal, water, or a non-alcoholic beverage.

Recommended dose

Adults and adolescents over 12 years: 1 tablet

Children 6-12 years: ½ tablet

The tablet can be divided into two equal doses.

Postafen has not been studied in clinical trials in children.

In case of motion sickness, the dose is given 1 hour before departure and thereafter every 12 hours if the journey lasts longer than 12 hours.

It may be necessary to reduce your dose if you are taking Postafen 25 mg English with certain other medicines, see also section 2 “Warnings and precautions” and “Other medicines and Postafen” for further information.

If You Use More Postafen Tablets Than You Should 

If you have ingested too much medicine or if, for example, a child has ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for risk assessment and advice.

An overdose of Postafen uses can cause the following symptoms:

  • Dilated pupils
  • Flushing
  • Dry mouth
  • Hallucinations
  • Difficulty coordinating movements
  • Tremors
  • Psychosis
  • High body temperature
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Effects on heart rhythm
  • Drowsiness
  • Coma or agitation
  • Convulsions
  • Depression

If You Forget To Take Postafen

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

Postafen Side Effects

This medicine can cause side effects like all medicines, although not everybody gets them.

The most common Postafen Side Effects are

  • Drowsiness
  • Fatigue
  • Dry mouth

How To Store Postafen 25 mg English

Keep this medicine out of sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

No special storage instructions.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What The Medicine Looks Like And The Contents Of The Pack

The tablets are white, oval, and with a scoreline on both sides.

Postafen Tablets are available in print packs of 10 tablets (over-the-counter pack) and 25 or 100 tablets (prescription pack).

Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
