What VeroPol is and what it is used for

VeroPol is a vaccine that protects against polio.

VeroPol stimulates the body to produce antibodies against poliovirus.

What you need to know before being vaccinated with VeroPol

You should not be vaccinated with VeroPol:

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients in the vaccine.
  • if you have previously experienced serious side effects after vaccination with VeroPol or similar vaccines.
  • if you are acutely ill and have a fever.

The doctor or nurse is extra careful when it comes to vaccination with VeroPol

  • if you are receiving medical treatment that affects your immune response . The vaccine may have a reduced effect in people with a weakened immune system.
  • if you are allergic to formaldehyde, as trace amounts may be present in the vaccine.

Other medicines and VeroPol

Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including those without a prescription, e.g. herbal remedies, vitamins and minerals.

Also tell the doctor if you are using any medicines that affect the immune system.

VeroPol can be given at the same time as other vaccines without affecting the effectiveness of the vaccine.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

If you are pregnant or breast-feding, think you may be pregnant or plan on have a baby, consult your doctor or pharmacist before being vaccinated with VeroPol.

Driving ability and use of machinery

VeroPol should not affect your ability to drive or use machines.

How you are vaccinated with VeroPol

The doctor or nurse gives the vaccine via injection into a muscle ( intr,amuscular ).

Dose o,ne is 0.5 ml for infants over 2 months, children, adolescents, and adults.

If you have not been vaccinated before, you should be vaccinated 3 times. The interval between vaccinations should normally be 2 months.

If you have been vaccinated 3 times before and need a booster vaccination, 1 dose is given. Consult a doctor or nurse if you are unsure.

If you need to be vaccinated

Consult a doctor or nurse if you think you need to be vaccinated.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, VeroPol can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Serious side effects are

Very rare side effects ( may affect up to 1 in 10,000 vaccinated people):

  • Serious allergic reactions, such as breathing difficulties, difficulty swallowing, itching , swelling around the eyes and face, drop in blood pressure and fainting (anaphylactic shock ).
  • Febrile convulsions.

Contact a doctor immediately if you experience any of the above reactions.

Less serious side effects are

Common side effects ( may affect up to 1 in 10 vaccinated people):

  • General malaise.
  • Fever (38°C or more).
  • Skin rash at the injection site.
  • Redness , swelling and tenderness at the injection site. These side effects can appear within 48 hours of vaccination and last for 1 to 2 days.

Rare side effects ( may affect up to 1 in 1,000 vaccinated people):

  • High fever (40°C or more).
  • Swollen lymph nodes 

Very rare side effects ( may affect up to 1 in 10,000):

  • He,adache, drowsiness.
  • Hives.
  • Temporary pains in muscles and joints.
  • Fainting.

How to store VeroPol

Store out of sight and reach of children.

Store in a refrigerator (2°C – 8ºC).

Do not freeze.

Store in the original packaging. Light sensitive.

The vaccine should not be used if it has been frozen or if it looks yellow.

Use, before the expiry date stated on the box after “Expiry date”. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

The medicine must not be thrown into the drain or among household waste. Ask the pharmacist how to dispose of medicine that is no longer used. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Contents declaration

The active substances are:

1 dose (0.5 ml) contains 40 D-antigen units of inactivated poliovirus type 1, 8 D-antigen units of inactivated poliovirus type 2 and 32 D-antigen units of inactivated poliovirus type 3.

Other ingredients are:

Medium 199 (contains phenol red as a pH indicator).

Poliovirus types 1, 2 and 3 are grown in Vero cells.

Poliovirus is inactivated with formaldehyde.

Appearance and package the sizes of the medicine

VeroPol is a bright orange to the red solution.
Each dose is supplied as an individual pre-filled syringe .
Pack sizes: 1 x 0.5 ml, 5 x 0.5 ml, 10 x 0.5 ml and 20 x 0.5 ml.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
