What Tetracycline RPH Pharma is and what it is used for
Tetracycline RPH Pharma is an antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacteria that cause infection.
Tetracycline RPH Pharma is used for various types of infection caused by bacteria that are sensitive to tetracycline. Can also be used for acne (pimples).
What you need to know before taking Tetracycline RPH Pharma
Do not use Tetracycline RPH Pharma:
- if you are allergic to tetracycline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- if you have strictures in the esophagus and/or any obstruction in the digestive tract.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before taking Tetracycline RPH Pharma:
- if you have impaired kidney function
- if you have myasthenia gravis (a disease that weakens the muscles).
During treatment with Tetracycline RPH Pharma, strong sunlight directly on the skin can cause a rash. Therefore, avoid sunbathing and solarium treatment even for a couple of days after finishing the treatment.
Tetracycline RPH Pharma should not be given to children under 8 years of age except on a specific prescription from a doctor because it can be deposited in the growing skeleton and cause damage to growing teeth.
Other medicines and Tetracycline RPH Pharma
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take other medicines, as some medicines can affect or be affected by treatment with Tetracycline RPH Pharma, for example:
- Medicines for stomach acid (antacids)
- Certain medicines for high blood pressure and heart failure (quinapril)
- Certain antiviral drugs are given for HIV infection (didanosine )
- Medicines that reduce the blood’s ability to clot, eg warfarin. The dose of this medicine may need to be adjusted when starting and ending treatment with Tetracycline RPH Pharma.
- Some medicines contain lime ( calcium ), iron, or zinc. The effect of Tetracycline RPH Pharma is reduced if it is taken at the same time as medicines containing calcium, iron, or zinc taken by mouth. These medicines and Tetracycline RPH Pharma should therefore be taken at least 3 hours apart.
Tetracycline RPH Pharma with food and drink
Tetracycline RPH Pharma should not be taken with a meal, as milk and other calcium-containing foods (e.g. skimmed milk, yogurt, cheese) can reduce the effect of Tetracycline RPH Pharma. There should be at least three hours between them.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
There is a risk of harmful effects on the fetus. Therefore, do not use Tetracycline RPH Pharma during pregnancy other than on a specific prescription from a doctor.
Tetracycline passes into breast milk but is unlikely to affect children who are breastfed.
Driving ability and use of machinery
No known influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
Tetracycline RPH Pharma contains lactose monohydrate and sucrose.
If you have an intolerance to some sugars, you should contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
How to take Tetracycline RPH Pharma
Always take this medicine as directed by your doctor. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The dose is determined by the doctor, who adjusts it individually for you.
The recommended dose for infection is 1 tablet 4 times daily.
The recommended dose for acne is 1 tablet 4 times daily or 2 tablets 2 times daily. Later, the dose can often be halved.
To avoid caustic damage to the esophagus, the tablets should be swallowed whole with at least ½ glass of liquid and not in a lying position or just before going to bed.
If you have taken too much Tetracycline RPH Pharma
If you have ingested too much medicine or if, for example, a child has ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for an assessment of the risk and advice.
If you forget to take Tetracycline RPH Pharma
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you stop taking Tetracycline RPH Pharma
Even if you feel better already after a few days of treatment, the entire course with Tetracycline RPH Pharma must be completed according to the doctor’s prescription. Otherwise, some bacteria may survive and cause a new outbreak of infection.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking Tetracycline RPH Pharma and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, and difficulty breathing ( angioedema, less common).
- Severe allergic shock reaction with skin rash, fever, facial swelling due to fluid accumulation ( edema ), and possible collapse (rare).
In case of prolonged or severe diarrhea, the attending physician should be contacted.
Other side effects:
Common (may affect more than 1 in 100 people):
- Stomach problems in the form of loose stools, nausea, and vomiting.
- Tooth enamel damage and discoloration of the teeth in children.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
- Corrosive lesions and ulcers in the esophagus.
- Allergic skin rashes, hives, and skin reactions are caused by increased photosensitivity.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
- Hypersensitivity reactions can manifest themselves as small bleeding in the skin and mucous membranes, pericarditis, and a worsening in those who have the disease SLE.
- Decreased amount of red blood cells, platelets, and some white blood cells.
- Inflammation in the mouth, tongue, intestine, and vagina, is often due to a fungal overgrowth due to a disturbance of the normal bacterial flora.
- Inflammation of the pancreas.
- Increased pressure in the head ( intracranial pressure ).
- An increased amount of lead substances ( urea ) in the blood.
- In case of reduced kidney function, Tetracycline RPH Pharma can accumulate in the liver and cause liver damage.
How Tetracycline RPH Pharma should be stored
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Use before the expiry date stated on the label after Ex. dat. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.
Medicines must not be thrown into the drain or among the household waste. Ask the pharmacist how to dispose of medications that are no longer used. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Contents declaration
- The active substance is tetracycline hydrochloride. One tablet contains 250 mg of tetracycline hydrochloride.
- Other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, sucrose, talc, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, basic butylated methacrylate copolymer, sodium starch glycolate, potato starch, sodium stearyl fumarate, titanium dioxide (dye E 171), sodium carboxymethylcellulose, paraffin.
