What Strepsils Mint is and what it is used for
Strepsils Mint is a throat tablet that is used for mild infections in the oral cavity and pharynx, for example for a sore throat. Strepsils Mint has an antibacterial and antiviral effect.
The 2,4- dichlorobenzene alcohol/amyl meta cresol found in Strepsils Mint may also be approved to treat other conditions not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or another healthcare professional if you have any further questions, and always follow their instructions.
What you need to know before taking Strepsils Mint
Do not use Strepsils Mint
- if you are allergic to 2,4-dichlorobenzene alcohol, amylmetacresol, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warning and caution
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
The lozenge should not be given to small children as it may pose a risk of suffocation.
You should contact a doctor in case of persistent symptoms or high fever.
Children
Strepsils Mint is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
Other medicines and Strepsils Mint
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Pregnancy
Information on Strepsils Mint during pregnancy is missing.
Breast-feeding
It is not known whether Strepsils Mint passes into breast milk. A risk to the newborn child/infant cannot be excluded.
Driving ability and use of machinery
Strepsils Mint has no effects on the ability to drive and use machines.
Strepsils Mint contains glucose, sucrose, wheat starch, sulfur dioxide, propylene glycol, and flavorings
If you have an intolerance to certain sugars, you should consult your doctor before taking this medication.
Contains 1.10 g anhydrous glucose and 1.38 g sucrose per lozenge. This should be taken into account by patients with diabetes mellitus.
This medicine contains 1.89 mg of propylene glycol per lozenge.
Sulfur dioxide E 220 (found in liquid glucose ) can in rare cases cause serious hypersensitivity reactions and spasms in the airways.
This medicine contains only very low levels of gluten (from wheat starch found in glucose ). It is considered “gluten-free” and is very unlikely to cause problems if you have celiac disease
One lozenge contains no more than 22.04 micrograms of gluten.
If you are allergic to wheat (a disease other than gluten intolerance) you should not use this medicine.
This medicine contains flavors with propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, cinnamyl alcohol, citral, citronellol, d-limonene, eugenol, and linalool.
Benzyl alcohol, cinnamyl alcohol, citral, citronellol, d-limonene, eugenol, and linalool can cause allergic reactions.
How to use Strepsils Mint
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The recommended dose is:
Adults: 1 lozenge can be slowly dissolved in the mouth every two to three hours if necessary.
The maximum recommended daily dose is 12 lozenges. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
For children over 12 years of age: 1 lozenge can be slowly dissolved in the mouth every two to three hours if necessary. The maximum recommended daily dose is 8 tablets. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Use the lowest dose and the shortest possible duration of treatment needed to relieve symptoms.
You should contact a doctor in case of persistent symptoms or high fever
If you have used too much Strepsils Mint
Possible reactions in case of overdose are stomach upset. If you have ingested too much medicine or if, for example, a child has ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor, or hospital for an assessment of the risk and advice.
If you forget to take Strepsils Mint
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten lozenge.
If you have any further questions about this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking Strepsils Mint and contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest emergency department if you experience any of the following symptoms
swelling of the face, tongue, or throat
– difficulty swallowing
– hives and difficulty breathing.
This may be a sign of a hypersensitivity reaction such as angioedema, which has been reported in an unknown number of users.

How to store Strepsils Mint
Store at a maximum of 25ºC.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Use before the expiry date stated on the packaging. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.
Medicines must not be thrown into the drain or among the household waste. Ask the pharmacist how to dispose of medicines that are no longer used. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Contents declaration
- The active substances are 2,4-dichlorobenzene alcohol and amyl meta cresol. One lozenge contains 2,4- dichlorobenzene alcohol 1.2 mg, amyl meta cresol 0.6 mg
- Other ingredients are Levomenthol, sucrose, anhydrous glucose, xylitol, eucalyptus oil, and flavors (spearmint, cool mint sensation).
Appearance and package sizes of the medicine
The lozenges are transparent and round with an S engraved on the top and bottom. The lozenges have a characteristic smell and taste of menthol.
Pack sizes: 10, 12, 16, 24 and 36 lozenges in printed packaging (PVC/Polyvinylidene chloride/aluminium foil).
Not all packages may be marketed.
