What SELSUN is and what it is used for
S ELSUN contains the active substance selenium disulfide. It is a medicated shampoo with antifungal properties used in dandruff and seborrhea. S ELSUN is also used for a fungal infection of the skin that occurs in the form of brownish, easily scratched spots and is caused by a yeast-like fungus ( pityriasis Versicolor ). The diagnosis of this fungal infection is determined by a doctor, who also prescribes treatment.
What you need to know before using SELSUN
Do not use SELSUN
- if you are allergic to selenium disulfide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and cautions
S ELSUN should not be used when the skin surface to be treated is acutely inflamed, such as in open wounds or eczema. Avoid using on damaged or sore skin.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if the shampoo has come into contact with the eyes and severe eye pain, swelling of the eyes, or a vision change develops or persists after rinsing with water.
You should not permanently or dye your hair at the same time as, or two days before or after the treatment with S ELSUN.
In case of insufficient rinsing, white or gray hair may take on a yellow tint.
Children and young people
If S ELSUN is used in children under 15 years, it should be done according to the doctor’s instructions.
Other medicines and SELSUN
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility
Selsun is not expected to have any side effects during pregnancy.
Selsun should not be used during breastfeeding.
Driving and using machines
S ELSUN does not affect the ability to drive or use machines.
How to use SELSUN
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
Selsun is intended for use on the scalp or the skin and is only intended for external use.
Avoid getting the preparation in your eyes. If you get the shampoo in your eyes, it can lead to serious eye irritation that can lead to injury. Rinse immediately with large amounts of cold water.
Wash your hands thoroughly after the treatment.
Remove rings and other metal objects before shampooing to avoid discoloration.
Dandruff and seborrhea:
Here’s how: (If your doctor has prescribed anything else, follow his or her prescription ).
- Shake the bottle well. Shampoo your hair with 1-2 teaspoons (5-10 ml) S ELSUN .S ELSUN should be in contact with the scalp for 2-3 minutes, after which the hair is rinsed well.
- Repeat the shampooing once more and rinse well.
- Wash your hands thoroughly.
For the first 2 weeks, the hair is treated twice a week, and then if necessary.
Do not leave the shampoo in contact with hair or skin for longer than recommended, as it may lead to irritation, a burning sensation, or blistering. Do not use it more often than recommended.
Pityriasis versicolor:
Follow your doctor’s prescription.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. These are generally mild and transient.
Rare (affects less than 1 user in 1,000): Application to the skin or scalp can cause irritation or increased sensitivity, which is sometimes described as a burning sensation. Blisters may occur, especially if the shampoo may be in contact with the skin or scalp for longer than recommended. Increased normal hair loss. Discoloration of hair (this can be avoided or minimized by rinsing the hair thoroughly)
Has been reported (occurs in an unknown number of users): Eye irritation: Superficial damage to the eye (cornea) with symptoms such as eye pain, swelling of the eyes, and changes in vision
How to store SELSUN
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and bottle. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.
The drug should not be disposed of via wastewater. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

- The other ingredients are bentonite, citric acid monohydrate, Empigen BB / alcoyl 12‑14 dimethyl betaine, glycerol monoricinoleate, monoethanolamine lauryl sulfate, perfume, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, titanium dioxide (E171).
