What Rennie is and what it is used for
Rennie is a tablet that provides relief from heartburn and acid reflux, as well as acid-related pain in the abdomen.
Rennie binds excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach and the acid-binding effect comes within a few minutes.
You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 7 days.
What you need to know before taking Rennie
Do not take Rennie:
- if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substances calcium carbonate or magnesium carbonate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
- if you have increased amounts of calcium in your blood and/or a condition that leads to an increased amount of calcium in your blood
- if you have increased levels of calcium in your urine
- if you have kidney stones.
Warnings and cautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Rennie:
- If you have impaired kidney function, you should consult a doctor before taking Rennie
- you are diabetic because the sugar content of a tablet is 475 mg
- If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine
- you use other products that contain calcium carbonate.
- Due to the sugar content of the tablets, careful oral hygiene is important.
- When consuming excessive amounts of calcium (an ingredient in Rennie), the milk-alkali syndrome can develop. Symptoms include urinary incontinence, headache, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, abnormal fatigue or weakness, as well as increased levels of calcium in the blood, and impaired kidney function.
Other drugs and Rennie
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Rennie can affect or be affected by certain medicines that contain the following active substances:
- drugs against bacterial infections (norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and tetracyclines, such as doxycycline, lymphocycline, oxytetracycline, and tetracycline )
- antifungal drugs ( ketoconazole )
- anti- tumor drugs (estramustine)
- drug for rejection of transplanted organ (mycophenolate mofetil)
- drugs for cardiovascular disease (sotalol)
- medicines for rheumatic disorders (penicillamine)
- osteoporosis drugs (alendronate, clodronate, risedronate)
- antiepileptic drugs ( gabapentin )
- drugs that increase the number of platelets so-called thrombopoietin receptor antagonists (eltrombopag)
- drugs for the treatment of HIV – infection (dolutegravir)
- drug for dysfunction of the thyroid gland (levothyroxine)
- preparations containing iron if taken at the same time. They should therefore be taken at least 2 hours apart.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
No known risks during use during pregnancy and lactation.
Rennie can be used during pregnancy if the recommended dose is followed.
Calcium and magnesium pass into breast milk, but at the recommended dosage no effects on breastfeeding are expected.
Driving and using machines
Rennie has no or negligible effect on the ability to drive and use machines.

If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
How to take Rennie
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor advised. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The recommended dose is 1-2 tablets that are chewed if necessary.
The recommended maximum intake is 11 tablets daily. Dose one should not be exceeded.
Rennie is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
If you take more Rennie than you should
If you have ingested too much medicine or if e.g. a child ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for risk assessment and advice.
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Possible side effects
Additional side effects in children and adolescents
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people) : Constipation, diarrhea.
In long-term use with high doses, cases of elevated levels of calcium in the blood have been reported.
If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
How to store Rennie
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not store above 25 ° C.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP.
The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Content declaration
- The active substances are: Calcium carbonate 680 mg corresponding to 272.4 mg calcium magnesium carbonate 80 mg corresponding to 20.5 mg of magnesium
- Other ingredients are Sucrose 475 mg, flavors (lemon and peppermint), magnesium stearate, liquid paraffin, talc, pregelatinized corn starch, and potato starch.
What the medicine looks like and the contents of the pack
Rennie chewable tablets are creamy white, flat, square with peppermint flavor, and embossed with “RENNIE” on both sides.
Rennie is available in pack sizes of 24, 48, and 96 tablets.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
