What Remifemin is and what it is used for

Remifemin is an herbal medicine used to relieve menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and heavy sweating.

What you need to know before using Remifemin

Do not use Remifemin

  • if you are allergic to medicated silverax or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and cautions

Talk to your doctor before treatment with Remifemin if:

  • you have or have had liver disease
  • You have been treated or are being treated for breast cancer or other hormone-dependent tumors.

Talk to your doctor if any of the following occur during treatment with Remifemin:

  • you get symptoms that indicate liver damage, e.g. fatigue, loss of appetite, yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark urine, or severe pain in the upper abdomen with nausea and vomiting. Stop taking Remifemin immediately and contact your doctor.
  • your period returns or you get other symptoms that you associate with menstruation.
  • menopausal symptoms worsen.

Other medicines and Remifemin

There is no known effect between medicated silverax and other medicines when used concomitantly.

However, concomitant treatment with estrogen and Remifemin should only be done in consultation with a physician.

In case of contact with a doctor or other healthcare professional, remember to tell them that you are taking or have recently taken this over-the-counter medicine.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

Remifemin should not be used during pregnancy and lactation as there is a lack of experience.

The potential effect of the drug on fertility has not been studied.

Driving and using machines

Remifemin has no or negligible effect on the ability to drive and use machines.

You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires sharpened attention. One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and/or side effects. Descriptions of these effects and side effects can be found in other sections. Read all the information in this leaflet for guidance. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Remifemin contains lactose

Remifemin contains lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

How to use Remifemin

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Adult women in menopause:

The recommended dose is 1 tablet twice daily (morning and evening). The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of liquid.

You can take the tablets regardless of the meal.

Treatment time

The effect of Remifemin comes only after a couple of weeks of treatment.

You should not use Remifemin for more than 6 months without consulting a doctor.

If you take more Remifemin than you should

If you have ingested too much medicine or if e.g. a child ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for risk assessment and advice.

If you forget to take Remifemin

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet. Continue to take the next tablet at the usual time.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following side effects have been reported with treatment with products containing medicated silver ax.

  • Liver toxicity ( inflammation of the liver, jaundice, disorders of liver function tests)
  • Allergic skin reactions ( hives, itching, rash)
  • Swollen hands/feet or face
  • Stomach and intestinal problems (upper abdominal problems, diarrhea) and weight gain
  • Menstrual-like bleeding during ongoing treatment in women who have stopped menstruating

How to store Remifemin

No special storage instructions.

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after “EXP”. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Content declaration

  • The active substance is: the extract of earthworm from medicinal silver ( Cimicifuga racemosa (L.) Nut)1 tablet contains 2.5 mg extract of medicinal silver ax ( Cimicifuga racemosa (L.) Nutt) soil strain, corresponding to 15-27.5 mg dried soil strain.Extractant: isopropyl alcohol 40% (v / v)
  • Other ingredients are Lactose monohydrate (196.6 mg), cellulose powder, potato starch, and magnesium stearate.

What the medicine looks like and the contents of the pack

The tablets are white to beige, 9 mm round, and slightly biconvex.

Remifemin is available in packs of 100 and 200 tablets.

Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
