OLYNTH 1 mg/ml Nasal Spray, Xylometazoline Hydrochloride Solution
What Olynth 1 mg/ml Is And What Olynth Used For
Month 1 mg/ml contains xylometazoline, which causes the blood vessels in the nose to constrict and thus has a decongestant effect on the lining of the nose, making it easier to breathe. Olynth 1 mg/ml also contains hyaluronic acid (in the form of sodium hyaluronate), which has a protective and moisturizing effect on the nasal mucosa.
Olynth nasal spray is used for the short-term treatment of nasal congestion in colds and acute sinusitis.
Xylometazoline hydrochloride contained in Olynth nose spray may also be approved for treating other conditions not mentioned in this leaflet. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professionals if you have further questions, and always follow their instructions.
What You Need To Know Before You Use Olynth 1 mg/ml
Do Not Use Olynth 1 mg/ml If You:
- Is allergic to xylometazoline or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- Have increased pressure in one eye, especially if you have narrow-angle glaucoma ( glaucoma ).
- Have chronic rhinitis (prolonged inflammation of the nose) with little or no runny nose ( rhinitis sicca )
- Treated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or if you have used MAOIs for the past 2 weeks.
- Be treated with other medicines that may raise your blood pressure
- Have an inflammation due to the nose’s blood vessels being hypersensitive.
- Has an inflammation associated with thin nasal mucosa with or without a runny nose?
- Has recently undergone brain surgery through the nose or mouth.
This nasal spray should NOT be used on children under 12.
Warnings And Cautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Olynth 1 mg/ml if you:
- Reacts strongly to sympathomimetics (adrenaline-like drugs) as the use of Olynth 1 mg/ml may cause insomnia, dizziness, uncontrolled tremors or tremors, irregular heartbeat or abnormal heart rhythm, or high blood pressure.
- Have heart problems, suffer from heart disease (e.g., long QT syndrome), vascular problems, or high blood pressure.
- Have an overactive thyroid gland, diabetes, or any other metabolic disorder.
- Have a disease of the adrenal glands.
- Has an enlarged prostate gland ( prostatic hypertrophy ).
Continuous drug use for long periods can lead to worsening nasal congestion.
Other Medicines And Olynth 1 mg/ml
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Olynth 1 mg/ml.
DO NOT use the nasal spray if you are taking:
- Certain antidepressants, such as tri or tetracyclic antidepressants or MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), or within two weeks of MAOI use (see section “Do not use Olynth 1 mg / ml” above).
- Other drugs can raise your blood pressure.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Pregnancy And Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Olynth 1 mg/ml should not be used during pregnancy as too little is known about the effects on the fetus.
If you are breastfeeding, talk to a doctor before using this medicine. It is unknown whether the active substance is excreted in human milk.
Driving And Using Machines
Olynth 1 mg/ml has no known effect on the ability to drive and use machines.
How To Use Olynth 1 mg/ml
- Always use this medicine as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
- Adults and children over 12 years:
- 1 spray of Olynth 1 mg/ml in each nostril up to 3 times a day for a maximum of 7 days unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor.
- Remove the protective cap. Prepare the bottle before using it by pressing the pump several times until an even spray shower is obtained (see figure 1). The spray is now ready for use.
- Hold the bottle upright. Insert the spray nozzle into the nostril – do not spray with the nozzle below the nostril (see figure 2).
- Press the pump once. Inhale through your nose as you spray. Repeat in the other nostril.
- Put the protective cap back on the bottle after use.
To minimize the risk of spreading the infection, only one person should use the bottle, and the mouthpiece should be rinsed after each use.
DO NOT use this nasal spray on children under 12 years of age
If You Use More Olynth Than You Should 1 mg/ml
If you have ingested too much medicine or if, e.g., a child has ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for risk assessment and advice.
If You Forget To Use Olynth 1 mg/ml
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and continue as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you have any further questions about the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Possible Olynth Side Effects
Olynth nasal spray can cause side effects like all medicines, although not everybody gets them.
STOP using the spray and seek medical advice immediately if you notice any of the following, which may be a sign of an allergic reaction :
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- Severe itching with red or raised skin rash.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
- Burning or burning sensation in the nose and throat and dry nasal mucosa.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
- Nosebleed
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
- Headache, high blood pressure, nervousness, nausea, dizziness, insomnia, and palpitations.
- Temporary visual disturbances and systemic allergic reactions.
No known frequency (can not be calculated from the available data):
- Worsening of nasal congestion after discontinuation of the drug.
If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not mentioned in this information.
How To Store Olynth 1 mg/ml
- Keep out of sight and reach of children.
- Do not store above 25 ° C.
- DO NOT use Olynth nose spray for more than 12 months after opening the package.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines that are no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
Contents Of The Pack And Other Information
Content Declaration
- The active substance is xylometazoline hydrochloride, 1 mg per milliliter of solution. Each spray dose of Olynth 1 mg/ml (= 140 μl) contains 140 μg of xylometazoline hydrochloride.
- The other ingredients are sodium hyaluronate, sorbitol (E420), glycerol (E422), sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium phosphate dihydrate, sodium chloride, and water for injections.
What The Medicine Looks Like And The Contents Of The Pack
The spray is a clear to slightly translucent, colorless to slightly yellowish solution in a white 10 ml plastic bottle with a dosing pump. The solution is sufficient for 55 sprays.
