What Norflex is and what it is used for

Norflex has a muscle-relaxing effect.

Norflex is used to relieve muscle pain in connection with muscle strain, back shot, skeletal injuries, and neck sprains.

What you need to know before taking Norflex

Do not take Norflex

  • if you are allergic to orphenadrine citrate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and cautions

Talk to your doctor before taking Norflex if you have any of the following conditions:

– if you have palpitations

– if you have an enlarged prostate

– if you have glaucoma (glaucoma)

If you have a shallow anterior chamber of the eye and a narrow ventricular angle, the treatment may trigger an attack of acute glaucoma caused by pupil dilation, but this condition is very uncommon.

Other medicines and Norflex

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.

The effect of Norflex may affect or be affected if other medicines are taken at the same time, for example:

  • antihistamines (medicines for allergies )
  • antispasmodics (medicines for certain intestinal problems)
  • tricyclic antidepressants (antidepressants)
  • MAO inhibitors (antidepressants and Parkinson’s disease )
  • phentiazines (medicines for mental illness)
  • dopaminergic antiparkinsonian drugs including amantidine (medicines used to treat Parkinson’s disease)
  • antiarrhythmic drugs such as disopyramide (medicines for irregular heartbeat).
  • alcohol may reduce the effect of Norflex
  • opioids (morphine-like drugs) as they may cause drowsiness and impaired breathing

Norflex may reduce the motility of the gastrointestinal tract and thereby affect the absorption of other medicines taken orally.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended.

Driving and using machines

During treatment with Norflex, the ability to react may be reduced. This should be taken into account when sharper attention is required, for example when driving a car.

You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires sharpened attention. One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and/or side effects. Descriptions of these effects and side effects can be found in other sections. Read all the information in this leaflet for guidance. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Norflex contains lactose

Norflex contains lactose . If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

How to take Norflex

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Always follow your doctor’s prescription and the instructions on the pharmacy label. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Dose one is determined by your doctor who adjusts it individually for you.

The usual dose for adults is 1 prolonged-release tablet twice daily (morning and evening).

The prolonged-release tablet should be swallowed whole. Do not split or crush.

If you have the impression that the effect of Norflex is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

If you use more Norflex than you should

If you have ingested too much medicine or if e.g. If a child has ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for risk assessment and advice. Symptoms of overdose may include anxiety, enlarged pupils, low blood pressure, slow or irregular heartbeat, convulsions, and impaired breathing.

If you forget to take Norflex

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten prolonged-release tablet.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): Fatigue, dizziness, nausea, blurred vision, and dry mouth.

Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): Hallucinations, confusion, tremors, difficulty adjusting the eye, palpitations, constipation, and difficulty urinating.

How to store Norflex

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. Dat or EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
