What Nezeril Is And What It Is Used For
Nezeril nasal spray has a rapid decongestant effect, which reduces nasal congestion and thus facilitates breathing. The effect comes within a few minutes.
Nizoral is used for short-term treatment of nasal congestion in colds.
Oxymetazoline hydrochloride contained in Nezeril may also be approved for the treatment of other conditions not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professionals if you have any further questions, and always follow their instructions.
What You Need To Know Before You Take Nezeril
Do Not Take Nezeril
- If you are allergic to oximetazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of Nezeril nasal spray listed in section 6).
Children
Do not use Nezeril nasal spray for children under 2 years.
Other Medicines And Nezeril
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
Pregnancy And Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
- Pregnancy: No adverse effects on the fetus have been demonstrated.
- Breast-feeding: As no studies have been performed, it is not known whether Nezeril passes into breast milk.
Driving And Using Machines
No studies have been performed, but to date, there is no evidence that Nezeril affects the ability to drive or use machines.
How to take Nezeril
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The recommended dose is:
Nasal drops 0.25 mg / ml
Children 2-7 years: 2 drops in each nostril 2-3 times a day.
Children 7-10 years: 1 single-dose container is emptied into each nostril 2-3 times a day.
Nasal drops 0.5 mg / ml
Adults and children from 10 years: 1 single-dose container is emptied into each nostril 2-3 times a day.
Nizoral should not be used for more than 10 consecutive days. When used for a long time, Nezeril may cause nasal congestion.
Instructions For Nezeril Uses
Instructions for use children:
- Remove a single-dose container . Shake the contents of the bottom of the single-dose container. Hold the single-dose container upright and open it by turning the wing (see figure).NOTE! If the dose is 2 drops, first squeeze out 1 drop that is not to be used.Repeat with a new single-dose container , so that two pieces are ready for use.
- Carefully clean the baby’s nose.
- Lay the baby on its back with its head bent back or tilt the baby’s head back.
- Empty a single-dose container into each nostril.
- Carefully turn the baby’s head alternately to the right and left a few times, and the drops will spread over the nasal mucosa .
Instructions for use for adults and children from 10 years:
- Sniff your nose.
- Remove a single-dose container . Shake the contents of the bottom of the single-dose container. Hold the single-dose container upright and open it by turning the wing (see figure).
- Tilt your head back and empty the single-dose container into one nostril. Then empty a new single-dose container into the other nostril.
- Sniff in air briefly and lightly a couple of times and the drops spread over the mucous membrane of the nose .
If You Take More Nezeril Than You Should
If you have ingested too much medicine or if e.g. a child ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for risk assessment and advice.
If You Forget To Take Nezeril
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Possible Nezeril Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
- Sneezing
- Dry mouth
- Throat
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
- Anxiety
- Irritability
- Local irritation of the nose, sleep disorders in children
When used for a long time, Nezeril may cause nasal congestion
How To Store Nezeril
- The single-dose containers should be stored in their inner envelope even after they have been opened.
- Single-dose containers in an opened inner envelope are stable for 3 months.
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and inner envelope after EXP. data. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Content Declaration
- The active substance is oxymetazoline hydrochloride.
- 1 ml contains:
Nezeril nasal drops 0.25 mg / ml: 0.25 mg oximetazoline hydrochloride.
Nezeril nasal drops 0.5 mg / ml: 0.5 mg oximetazoline hydrochloride. - The other ingredients are hypromellose, disodium edetate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium phosphate dihydrate, sodium chloride and purified water.
- Nezeril nasal drops in single-dose containers are free of preservatives
