What Nasin is and what it is used for
Nasin is used for the short-term treatment of nasal congestion in colds.
Basin has a rapid decongestant effect, which reduces nasal congestion and thus facilitates breathing. The effect comes within a few minutes.
Oxymetazoline hydrochloride contained in Nasin may also be approved for the treatment of other conditions not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professionals if you have any further questions, and always follow their instructions.
What you need to know before using Nasin
Do not take Nasin
- if you are allergic to oximetazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Other drugs and Nasin
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
Nasin contains benzalkonium chloride
This medicine contains 5 micrograms of benzalkonium chloride per spray. Benzalkonium chloride may irritate and swell inside the nose, especially with prolonged use of the medicine.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy: No adverse effects on the fetus have been demonstrated.
Breast-feeding: As no studies have been performed, it is not known whether Nasin passes into breast milk.
Driving and using machines
No studies have been performed, but to date, there is no evidence that Nasin would affect the ability to drive or use machines.
Nasin contains benzalkonium chloride
Nasin contains the preservative benzalkonium chloride, which can be irritating to the nasal mucosa.
How to take Nasin
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The recommended dose is:
Nasal spray 0.25 mg / ml
Children 2-7 years: 1 spray in each nostril 2-3 times a day.
Children 7-10 years: 2 sprays in each nostril 2-3 times a day.
Nasal spray 0.5 mg / ml
Adults and children from 10 years: 2 sprays in each nostril 2-3 times a day.
Nasin should not be used for more than 10 consecutive days. When used for a long time, Nasin can cause nasal congestion.
Instructions for use
The first time you use the spray or when you have not used it for a long time, you must charge the pump. Hold the bottle straight up and spray a few times in the air until there is an even shower.
- Sniff your nose.
Remove the protective hood. - Hold the spray bottle as shown in the picture.
- Insert the tip into one nostril and pump the number of doses you should take (according to the dosing instructions above). Do the same in the other nostril.
- Replace the protective cap.
As it can be difficult to empty the bottle, it is filled with a little more than 7.5 ml.
This ensures that you get the specified amount.
If you take more Nasin than you should
If you have ingested too much medicine or if e.g. a child ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for risk assessment and advice.
If you forget to take Nasin
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
sneezing, dry mouth and throat.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
anxiety, irritability, local irritation of the nose, sleep disorders in children.
When used for a long time, Nasin can cause nasal congestion.
How to store Nasin
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store with the protective cap on.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and bottle after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
