What Mometasone Teva is and what it is used for

Mometasone Teva cream and Mometasone Teva ointment contain the active substance mometasone furoate, which belongs to a group of medicines called local cortisone preparations (or corticosteroids ). Mometasone furoate cream and ointment are classified as a “strong-acting cortisone preparation”. These drugs are used on the skin surface to reduce redness and itching caused by certain skin problems.

In adults and children 6 years and older, Mometasone Teva cream and ointment are used to reduce redness and itching caused by certain skin problems such as psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis) and/or certain types of dermatitis (skin inflammation).

Psoriasis is a skin disease in which itchy, scaly, pink spots form on the elbows, knees, scalp, and other parts of the body. Dermatitis is a condition caused by the skin reacting to a substance with which it comes in contact, e.g. detergent, which causes the skin to become red and itchy.

Mometasone contained in Mometasone Teva may also be approved for the treatment of other conditions not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professional if you have any further questions, and always follow their instructions.

What you need to know before using Mometasone Teva

Do not use Mometasone Teva

  • if you are allergic to mometasone furoate, any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6), or similar medicines.
  • in other skin problems as it can aggravate them, especially rosacea (a skin condition that affects the face)

    • skin atrophy (thinning of the skin)

Warnings and cautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Mometasone Teva.

  • If your skin becomes irritated or sensitive after using Mometasone Teva, stop using it and consult a doctor.

Mometasone Teva contains excipients

Mometasone Teva 1mg / g cream contains stearyl alcohol and propylene glycol monopalmitostearate

This medicine contains stearyl alcohol which may cause local skin irritation (eg contact dermatitis ).

This medicine contains 70 mg of propylene glycol monopalmitostearate per gram of cream. Propylene glycol can cause skin irritation.

Mometasone Teva 1mg / g ointment contains propylene glycol monopalmitostearate.

This medicine contains 20 mg of propylene glycol monopalmitostearate per gram of ointment. Propylene glycol can cause skin irritation.

How to use Mometasone Teva

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. Mometasone Teva is not recommended for children under 6 years.

Adults, including elderly patients and children 6 years and older

  • A thin layer of cream or ointment is gently applied to the affected area of ​​the skin once daily.
  • You only need to use a small amount of this preparation
  • A fingertip unit (a line from the tip of an adult’s index finger to the first fold) is sufficient to cover an area twice the size of an adult’s hand. Never take more than this amount or more often than recommended by your doctor or pharmacist.

Always follow these instructions when using Mometasone Teva:

  • Do not use cream or ointment on the face for more than 5 days.
  • Do not use cream or ointment on children, on any part of the body, for more than 5 days.
  • Do not use cream or ointment under your baby’s diaper, as this will make it easier for the medicine to pass through the skin and possibly cause side effects .
  • Consult a physician before covering the treated areas with bandages or patches . Treated areas on the face or on children should not be covered with bandages or patches .
  • You should not use a large amount of cream or ointment on large areas of the body for a long time (eg every day for several weeks or months).

Use for children and adolescents

If you use more Mometasone Teva than you should

If you use a cream or ointment more often than you should, or on large areas of the body, it can affect some of your hormones. In children, it can affect their growth and development.

If you have not used the cream or ointment according to the instructions but have used it too often and/or for too long, tell your doctor.

If you forget to use Mometasone Teva

If you forget to use a cream or ointment at the right time, use it as soon as you remember. Then continue according to your doctor’s instructions.

If you stop using Mometasone Teva

If you have been using Mometasone Teva for a long time and your skin problems seem to have improved, you should not suddenly stop using cream or ointment. Doing so may cause the skin to turn red and it may hurt or sting. To avoid this, talk to your doctor who will gradually reduce your use of cream or ointment until you stop treatment completely.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

How to store Mometasone Teva

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the tube or carton after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Do not store above 30 ° C.

This medicine should be discarded 3 months after opening.

Do not use cream or ointment if you notice visible signs of deterioration, e.g. noticeable color changes. If you are not sure, talk to a pharmacist.
