Atherosclerosis means that fat has accumulated on the inside of the blood vessels. This is because the walls of the blood vessels become stiffer with age. Vein obesity can lead to blood clots and other cardiovascular diseases.
Symptoms of vein obesity
Vein obesity initially gives no symptoms. You only get trouble when it is so much fat has accumulated in the same place that the blood vessels become narrow or when a plug has loosened. Then you may have a heart attack, heart or leg cramps, strokes, TIA or other problems.
How do I prevent vein fat?
There are several things you can do to prevent high blood pressure and high levels of blood fats. For example, you can eat healthily, sleep well and exercise regularly. Being overweight, obese and, above all, smoking can cause blood vessel damage.
You can have high blood pressure, high levels of blood fats, cholesterol and diabetes without feeling it. You should ask a doctor to check your blood pressure and blood fat levels if there are several cases of atherosclerosis in your family. This is especially true if any close relative has had atherosclerosis before the age of 60.
When and where should I seek care?
If you think you have high levels of blood fats or symptoms of vein obesity, contact a health care provider. You can contact many receptions by logging in.
If it’s in a hurry
If you experience severe pain in your legs that does not release even though you are resting, contact a health care center or an on-call clinic immediately. Seek care at an emergency room if it is closed at the health center or on-call reception.
Investigation
You can see a doctor and tell you about your symptoms or why you think you may have atherosclerosis.
If the doctor deems it necessary, you will be examined for ultrasound or x-ray of blood vessels, also called angiography. In this way, the doctor can examine the blood vessels in which they suspect that there may be atherosclerosis.
Computed tomography, isotope examination or other examinations are sometimes needed for the doctor to see if anybody part has been damaged. You may also need to do an ECG or work test for the doctor to see if there are any signs that the heart is strained. The doctor also measures blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood fats.
Treatment for varicose veins
The most important thing is that you look over your living habits and try to reduce your risk of vein obesity through a healthy lifestyle. You should stop smoking if you do. This is especially important when the injury has become so severe that treatment is necessary. Drugs or surgery can never compensate for an unhealthy lifestyle.
Treatment with drugs
You can get medicines if you have diabetes, high blood pressure and high levels of blood fats. Blood thinners can prevent blood clots. The already existing arteriosclerosis is not reversible by drugs, but the treatment can prevent arteriosclerosis from continuing.
Operation
It can sometimes be a better blood flow with surgery. Then the blood vessel in which you have got a vein fat is operated. One of these three methods is usually used:
- Balloon dilation, which means that a small balloon is inserted into the constricted blood vessel and then inflated to dilate the vessel.
- Bypass surgery / coronary artery surgery, which means that other blood vessels pass the blood past the narrowing.
- Scrapping of the innermost calcified layer of the blood vessel.
You have the right to understand
In order for you to be able to participate in your care and make decisions, it is important that you understand the information you receive from the healthcare staff. Ask questions if you don’t understand. You can also ask for information printed so that you can read it peacefully.
What happens in the body?
As you get older, the walls of the arteries, the arteries, become thicker and stiffer. Over time, fat, blood cells and connective tissue are stored inside the blood vessels. When it gets too crowded, the blood becomes harder to pass.
Atherosclerosis is also called atherosclerosis or atherosclerosis and can sometimes cause blood clots to form. It can cause the following serious illnesses:
- You may have angina or myocardial infarction when the vessels that direct the blood to the heart muscle become too narrow.
- You may have a stroke or transitory ischemic attack, TIA if the vessels that lead the blood up to the brain become too narrow.
- You can get angina in your legs if you have a vein fat in your legs.
Vein fat can also cause problems with potency. When atherosclerosis has started to cause discomfort in some parts of the body, you usually have atherosclerosis in other blood vessels, even if you have not yet noticed it.
