Gangrene

}

Blood circulation is a part of the body that can be severely impaired by, for example, diabetes, vein obesity, smoking or severe cold injury. If you are not given care, the body part or parts of it may die. It is called cold sores or gangrene and is most common in fingers, feet, toes or legs.

Gut burns that are infected are usually called moist. Bacteria then form toxins and there can sometimes be a risk of the infection spreading to the area around or to other parts of the body. You can get so-called dry heat if you froze. Then you do not have an infection and the cold fire does not spread outside the area where you received it.

Symptoms of gangrene

If you have gangrene in a body part, the area first becomes red, swollen and very painful. Then the tissue darkens and becomes almost black. You may also have a fever. When the tissue is dead, it no longer hurts there. If it is a humid fire, the body part where you received gangrene will dissolve and may even smell bad.

When and where should I seek care?

Contact a health care center if you have any wounds or colds that do not heal properly. If it is a weekend, you can wait until it is every day. You can contact many receptions by logging in.

Seek medical care directly at a health center or on-call hospital if you have a lot of pain in a body part with wounds or colds. If it is closed at the health center or on-call reception, seek care at an emergency room.

Treatment for gangrene

If you get moist pyrexia in a body part, it may need to be surgically repaired, sometimes quite urgently.

If you have gangrene, you usually get painkillers. Quitting smoking is of great importance. You also get antibiotics if needed. In some cases, other medications may be effective.

If you have dry flames after a cold injury, the tissue loosens itself when it has died.

Influence and participate in your care

You can seek care at any medical center or open specialist clinic you want throughout the country. Sometimes a referral  to the open specialized care is required.

You should understand the information

In order for you to be involved in your care and treatment, it is important that you understand the information you receive from the healthcare staff. Ask questions if you don’t understand. For example, you should get information about treatment options and how long you may have to wait for care and treatment.
