What Tom is and what it is used for
Torem is a diuretic but has a weak diuretic effect at the dosage that is relevant for blood pressure treatment. The diuretic effect occurs within 1 hour with maximum effect after 2–3 hours and persists up to 12 hours. Maximum blood pressure-lowering effect with repeated dosing is seen after up to 10-12 weeks.
Torem is used for the treatment of high blood pressure and fluid accumulation in body tissues with swelling ( edema ).
What you need to know before using Torem
Do not use Torem
- If you are allergic to torasemide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- If you are allergic to sulfonylureas.
- If you have severe liver disease.
- If you have reduced blood volume.
- If you have no urine output.
- If you have low blood pressure.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before using Torem.
- If you have low levels of potassium and sodium in your blood.
- If you have urinary problems.
- If you are dehydrated and dehydrated.
- If you have reduced kidney function.
- If you have an irregular heart rhythm.
- If you have diabetes.
- If you have cirrhosis or fluid in the abdomen.
Children and young people
The item should not be used by children under 12 years of age.
Other medicines and Torem
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might be taking other medicines. This also applies to over-the-counter medicines and herbal remedies.
Item can affect or be affected if it is taken simultaneously with certain other medicinal substances against:
- probenecid (medicine for gout )
- aspirin (pain reliever)
- coumarin-type blood thinners (eg warfarin )
- certain agents for heart diseases such as e.g. digitalis glycosides and ACE inhibitors
- anti- diabetic agent
- cholestyramine ( cholesterol- and triglyceride-lowering agent)
- certain agents in case of infection such as e.g. gentamicin, tobramycin, and cephalosporins
- certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory/antirheumatic agents ( NSAIDs )
- cisplatin ( cytostatics )
- lithium (antipsychotic)
- laxatives
- glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids _
- theophylline (e.g. asthma )
Torem with food and drink
Item can be taken with or without food.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
There is a risk that the fetus will be affected. Therefore, consult a doctor before using Torem during pregnancy.
Unknown if Torem passes into breast milk. Therefore, consult a doctor before use during breastfeeding.
Driving ability and use of machinery
Item can impair the ability to react. This applies above all at the beginning of the treatment or when the treatment is changed.
You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires increased attention. One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and/or side effects. A description of these effects and side effects can be found in other sections. Read all the information in this leaflet for guidance. Discuss with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
Torem contains lactose
If you have an intolerance to certain sugars, you should consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
How to use Torem
Always use this medicine as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The usual dose for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age with high blood pressure: is 2.5 mg daily, preferably with breakfast. If necessary, the doctor can increase the dose to a maximum of 5 mg once daily.
The usual dose for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age in case of edema: is 5-10 mg daily, preferably with breakfast. If necessary, the doctor can increase the dose by one to 20 mg per day.
The tablets should be swallowed with a little liquid and should not be chewed. The tablets can be advantageously taken in the morning.
Use for children
The item should not be given to children under 12 years of age.
If you have used too much Torem
If you have ingested too much medicine or if, for example, If a child has ingested the medicine by mistake, immediately contact a doctor or hospital for an assessment of the risk and advice.
If you forget to use Torem
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you have any further questions about this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Torem can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking Torem and contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest emergency department if you experience the following symptoms:
Extremely strong and serious skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis have been reported (occurring in an unknown number of users) with the use of Torem. The skin side effects can consist of a rash with or without blisters. Skin redness, sores, or swelling in the mouth, throat, eyes, nose, and around the genitals as well as fever and flu-like symptoms can also occur. The skin rash can develop into serious widespread skin damage (skin peeling of the epidermis and superficial mucous membranes) with life-threatening consequences.
Other side effects that may occur:
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 users): Headache, dizziness, tiredness.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 users): Decreased potassium in the blood, liver damage, bladder problems, increased levels of blood sugar, blood fats, blood triglycerides and cholesterol, overproduction of uric acid, loss of appetite, weakness, stomach or muscle problems, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, muscle cramps.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1000 users): Heart attack, irregular heart rhythm, angina pectoris, changes in creatinine, urea, and sodium levels in the blood, changes in blood levels, hypersensitivity to sunlight, itching, hives, hearing loss, tinnitus, tingling and numbness in the arms and bone, dry mouth.
Has been reported (occurs in an unknown number of users ): Cerebral infarction ( stroke ), blood clot, inflammation of the pancreas, visual disturbances, fainting, and confusional state.
Not known frequency (cannot be calculated from the available data): Cerebral infarction ( stroke ), blood clots, serious skin reactions (eg Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis ), pancreatitis, visual disturbances, fainting, confusional state.
How Torem should be stored
No special storage instructions.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Use before the expiry date stated on the packaging after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.
Medicines must not be thrown into the drain or among the household waste. Ask the pharmacy how to dispose of medicines that are no longer used. These measures will help to protect the environment.
