What Neurol is and what it is used for

Neurol is herbal medicine for use in mild anxiety and sleep disorders.

Neurol contains extracts of turnip root (Valeriana officinalis, root) and belongs to the group of sleeping pills and sedatives.

What you need to know before you use Neurol

Do not use Neurol

If you are allergic to root rot or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6). 

Children and young people

Children under 12 years of age should not be treated with Neurol.

Other drugs and Neurol

Do not use other sleeping pills or sedatives with Neurol without first consulting a doctor. Neurol may potentiate the effects of drugs that affect the central nervous system, such as sleeping pills, anti-anxiety drugs, narcotics, or sedatives.

In case of contact with a doctor or other healthcare professional, remember to tell them that you are taking or have recently taken this over-the-counter medicine.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

In the absence of adequate data, Neurol should not be used by pregnant or lactating women.

The potential effect of the drug on fertility has not been studied.

Driving and using machines

Neurol may impair the ability to drive and use machines. Therefore, if you feel affected by Neurol, avoid driving and handling dangerous tools or machines.

You are responsible for assessing whether you can drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires sharpened attention. One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and/or side effects. Descriptions of these effects and side effects can be found in other sections of this leaflet. Discuss with your doctor if you are unsure.

Neurol contains lactose, sucrose and glucose

Neurol contains lactose (milk sugar), sucrose, and glucose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

How to use Neurol

Always use Neurol exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.

Swallow the tablet whole along with the liquid.

Adults, the elderly, and adolescents over 12 years of age:

For mild anxiety: 1-2 tablets no more than 4 times daily if needed.

In case of sleep disturbances: 2-3 tablets half an hour before bedtime. If necessary, the dose can be increased, so that 1-3 tablets are taken earlier in the evening, followed by 2-3 tablets half an hour before bedtime.

Maximum 14 tablets per day.

Children under 12 years:

Neurol is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

To achieve an optimal effect of the treatment, continuous use for 2-4 weeks is recommended.

Contact a doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve after 2 weeks of treatment.

If you take more Neurol than you should

If you have ingested too much medicine or if, for example, a child has ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital for risk assessment and advice.

If you forget to take Neurol

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or other healthcare professional.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Neurol can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Side effects from the gastrointestinal tract can occur, such as nausea and stomach cramps.

How to store Neurol

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

The medicine should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Content declaration

  • The active substance is 91 mg extract of turnip root ( Valeriana officinalis , root). When making a Neurol tablet, about 410 mg of dried root of the taproot is needed.
  • The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate , sucrose, talc, liquid spray-dried glucose , maize starch, anhydrous colloidal silica, povidone, magnesium stearate, ethylcellulose, activated carbon (E 153) and macrogol.

What the medicine looks like and contents of the pack

Black, slightly arched, coated tablets, diameter about 8 mm.

100 tablets and 200 tablets in a plastic jar.

Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
