What Valerina Forte is and what is it used for

Valerina Forte is a herbal medicine intended for use in mild anxiety and sleep disorders. Valerina Forte contains extracts from the root of valerian ( Valeriana officinalis L., radix) and belongs to the drug group sleeping aids and sedatives.

What you need to know before taking Valerina Forte

Do not take Valerina Forte

  • if you are allergic to valerian root or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Children and young people

Children under the age of 12 should not be treated with Valerina Forte.

Other medicines and Valerina Forte

Do not use other sleeping pills or sedatives together with Valerina Forte without first consulting a doctor. Valerina Forte can enhance the effect of drugs that affect the central nervous system, e.g. sleeping pills, anxiolytics, narcotic preparations, or sedatives.

When contacting a doctor or other healthcare professional, remember to mention that you are taking or have recently taken this over-the-counter medicine.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

In the absence of sufficient data, Valerina Forte should not be used by pregnant or lactating women. The drug’s possible effect on fertility has not been studied.

Driving ability and use of machinery

Valerina Forte can impair the ability to drive and use machines. If you feel affected by Valerina Forte, you should therefore avoid driving and handling dangerous tools or machines.

You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires increased attention. One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and/or side effects. Descriptions of these effects and side effects can be found in other sections of this leaflet. Discuss with a doctor or other healthcare professional if you are unsure.

Valerina Forte contains lactose

Valerina Forte contains lactose (milk sugar). If you have an intolerance to certain sugars, consult a doctor before taking this medication.

How to take Valerina Forte

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor. Consult a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse if you are unsure.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of liquid.

Children from 12 years, adults and older:

For the relief of anxiety: 1 – 2 tablets no more than three times daily.

For the relief of sleep disorders: 2-3 tablets ½-1 hour before bedtime. If necessary, take 1 – 3 tablets earlier in the evening.

Maximum 10 tablets per day.

To achieve an optimal effect of the treatment, continuous use is recommended for 2-4 weeks. Contact a doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve after two weeks of treatment.

If you have taken too much Valerina Forte

If you have ingested too much medicine or if, for example, a child accidentally ingested the medicine, contact a doctor or hospital for an assessment of the risk and advice.

If you forget to use Valerina Forte

Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed tablet.

If you have further questions about this medicine, contact your doctor, healthcare professional, or the product’s representative (see section 6).

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Side effects from the gastrointestinal tract can occur, such as nausea and stomach cramps.

How to store Valerina Forte

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Store at a maximum of 30 ºC. Store in the original packaging. Light sensitive.

Use before the expiry date stated on the packaging after the Issue. dat. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Medicines must not be thrown into the drain or among the household waste. Ask the pharmacist how to dispose of medicines that are no longer used. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Contents of the packaging and other information

Contents declaration

  • The active substance is the root extract from valerian ( Valeriana officinalis L., radix) 200 mg. The extract contains 50 mg of excipients. The extractant is 60% ethanol (removed during manufacture). In the manufacture of a Valerina Forte tablet, approx. 1–1.5 g of dried root is required.
  • Other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, potato starch, cellulose powder, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, macrogol, titanium dioxide [E171] (color), and red iron oxide [E172] (color).

Appearance and package sizes of the medicine

The film-coated tablets are pale red, round, and 11 mm in diameter.

Pack sizes: 20, 40, 80 and 240 tablets in blister cards.

Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
