Emtricitabine / Tenofovir disoproxil Accord contains two active substances, emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil. Both of these active substances are antiretroviral drugs used to treat HIV – infection. Emtricitabine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor and tenofovir is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor. However, both are commonly called NRTIs and act by affecting the normal function of an enzyme (reverse transcriptase) that the virus needs for its reproduction (propagation).
