"THE
UNITED NATIONS" PART-2
Note:
Students will observe
that the diverse aspects of the
United Nations, specially the
facts and features
related
to its vast, complex and far-ranging
structure have been fairly
comprehensively outlined in the
two
presentations.
To
obtain further information about the
UN, students can
conveniently access the latest reports
and
developments
from the website: www.un.org.
Particular
attention should be paid to the proposals
presented by the UN Secretary-General in
2005
identifying
different options for re-structuring the
UN Security Council.
To
benefit from a more historical
perspective of the UN than a purely
contemporary perspective, students
are
provided with this
handout.
The
text for this handout is an
excerpt from chapter # 1 of the
book titled: "United
Nations, Divided
World:
The
UN's Roles in International Relations",
edited by Adam Roberts and
Benedict Kingsbury, published by
Clarendon
Press, Oxford, UK,
1990.
