What Terracortril is and what it is used for

Terracortril is a combination preparation containing hydrocortisone and oxytetracycline.

Hydrocortisone is mild-acting cortisone, which has an anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effect.

Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria.

Terracortril ointment is used for:

– Various forms of eczema that have become infected.

– Infected eczema in the external ear canal a.

What you need to know before you use Terracortril

Do not use Terracortril

  • if you are allergic to oxytetracycline, hydrocortisone, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
  • Terracortril should not be used in the ear canal if you have a hole in the eardrum.

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor before using Terracortril

  • before treatment of children under 8 years of age, as the impact on growing teeth and bones cannot be completely excluded.
  • before treating large areas, especially in young children and infants.

Contact a doctor if you experience blurred vision or other visual disturbances.

Avoid getting the ointment in the eyes.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy

Although there have been no reports of risks in pregnancy with external use of this type of medicine, the safety of use during pregnancy has not been fully ensured. Therefore, consult a doctor before using Terracortril ointment during pregnancy.

Breast-feeding 

It is not known whether this type of medicine passes into breast milk when used topically. Therefore, consult a doctor before using Terracortril ointment while breastfeeding.

Driving ability and use of machinery

Terracortril ointment is not expected to affect the ability to drive or use machines.

How to use Terracortril

Always use this medicine as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Usual prescription: A thin layer of the ointment is gently rubbed into the affected skin 2-3 times daily. Sterile compresses can be used if you wish to cover the affected skin area.

If you have used too much Terracortril  

If you have ingested too much medicine or if, for example, If a child has ingested the medicine by mistake, immediately contact a doctor or hospital for an assessment of the risk and advice.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Common ( may affect up to in 10 users):

Itching, burning, or skin irritation.

Rare ( may affect up to in 1,000 users): 

Bacterial and fungal infections.

Has been reported (occurring in an unknown number of users):

Blurred vision

Isolated cases of allergic reactions have been reported.

If unusual or troublesome reactions occur, consult a doctor.

How to store Terracortril

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Store at a maximum of 25 °C.

Use before the expiry date stated on the packaging after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Medicines must not be thrown into the drain or among the household waste. Ask the pharmacist how to dispose of medicines that are no longer used. These measures will help to protect the environment.
