Sterile water Baxter Viaflo is clean, sterile water used to dilute medicines before use, for example medicines to be given as:

  • injection
  • infusion (a slow injection ) into a vein, also called a drip.

Do not use Sterile water Baxter Viaflo

DO NOT use Sterile water Baxter Viaflo without additive . If it is injected into the bloodstream without an additive, it can cause the red blood cells to take in fluid and burst ( hemolysis ). This is because Sterile water Baxter Viaflo does not have the same concentration as the blood.

Sterile water Baxter Viaflo must always be mixed with one or more medicines by a healthcare professional before it is given to you.

Warnings and precautions

Sterile water Baxter Viaflo should not be used without an additive. Before using Baxter Viaflo Sterile Water will:

How to use Sterile water Baxter Viaflo

Sterile water Baxter Viaflo is given to you by a doctor or nurse.

The doctor will decide how much you need and when it should be given to you. This depends on which medicines you use with Sterile water Baxter Viaflo.

Your doctor will also consider your age, weight, general condition and other concomitant treatment.

Sterile water Baxter Viaflo must NOT be given to you if there are particles in the solution or if the package is damaged in any way.

If you used too much of Baxter Viaflo Sterile Water 

If you have received too much Sterile water Baxter Viaflo (over-infusion), it can lead to hemolysis . Hemolysis is when the red blood cells take in fluid and break down.

The medicines that have been mixed with Sterile water Baxter can also cause symptoms if they are given in too large a dose (overinfusion). Any signs and symptoms of overdose depend on which medicine is mixed with Sterile Water Baxter Viaflo.

If you accidentally overdose, the treatment will be stopped and treatment depending on the symptoms will be given.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The red blood cells can burst ( hemolysis ) if:

  • Sterile water Baxter Viaflo is used without additives
  • Sterile water Baxter Viaflo is used to prepare solutions for injection or infusion whose concentration is not similar to blood (isotonic).

How Sterile water Baxter Viaflo should be stored

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

No special storage instructions.

Do not remove Sterile Water Baxter Viaflo from the outer packaging until just before use.

Use before the expiry date stated on the bag after EXP.

The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Once the package has been opened, Sterile Water Baxter Viaflo should be used immediately.

The bags are packed in cartons. Each box contains one of the following quantities

  • 50 bags of 50 ml
