What Sodium Fluoride Morningside 5 mg / g toothpaste is and what it is used for

Sodium fluoride Morningside toothpaste is used to prevent caries (cavities) in the teeth of adolescents from 16 years and adults, especially in people who are at risk of getting many cavities in the teeth. This toothpaste contains fluoride as the sodium salt, which belongs to a group of medicines called anti- caries drugs.

Fluoride contained in Sodium Fluoride Morningside may also be approved for the treatment of other conditions not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professional if you have any further questions, and always follow their instructions.

What you need to know before using Sodium Fluoride Morningside 5 mg / g toothpaste

Do not use Sodium Fluoride Morningside 5 mg / g toothpaste

Do not use Sodium Fluoride Morningside toothpaste:

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to sodium fluoride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
  • if you have not reached the age of 16.

Should only be used on the recommendation of a doctor or dentist.

Talk to your doctor, dentist, or pharmacist before using Sodium Fluoride Morningside toothpaste:

  • Sodium fluoride Morningside toothpaste contains a lot of fluoride. Avoid taking fluoride in the form of tablets, drops, chewing gum , gels or toothpaste and water or salt with fluoride additive while using Sodium fluoride Morningside toothpaste To prevent fluoride from being stored in the body, the total intake of fluoride must be assessed before using this fluoride toothpaste. Consult a doctor, dentist or pharmacist regarding this.

Children and young people

Sodium fluoride Morningside toothpaste should not be used by children and adolescents under 16 years of age.

Other medicines and Sodium fluoride Morningside 5 mg / g toothpaste

There are no known cases where other medicines have been or have been affected by this medicine. Tell your doctor, dentist, or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Sodium fluoride Morningside 5 mg / g toothpaste with food, drink and alcohol

Water and salt with fluoride additives should be avoided when using this toothpaste. Food or liquid ingested immediately after brushing can dampen the re-mineralizing effect on the teeth. Therefore, brush your teeth with Sodium Fluoride Morningside toothpaste after meals.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

Lack of experience using Sodium Fluoride Morningside toothpaste during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor, dentist or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not use Sodium Fluoride Morningside toothpaste until your doctor or dentist has assessed the risks and benefits.

Driving and using machines

Sodium fluoride Morningside toothpaste does not affect your ability to drive or use machines.

Sodium fluoride Morningside toothpaste contains sodium benzoate, sorbitol and propylene glycol.

  • Sodium benzoate is slightly irritating to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes.
  • If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • propylene glycol can cause skin irritation.

How to use Sodium Fluoride Morningside 5 mg / g toothpaste

Sodium fluoride Morningside toothpaste should only be used by people over the age of sixteen. Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor, dentist or pharmacist have told you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor, dentist, or pharmacist.

Use Sodium Fluoride Morningside toothpaste when brushing your teeth, three (3) times a day:

  • press 2 cm of toothpaste on the toothbrush at each brushing (2 cm gives 3 mg to 5 mg of fluoride).
  • brush your teeth after every meal.
  • brush your teeth vertically, from the palate and towards the chewing surfaces.
  • spit out the foam, do not swallow .

Thorough brushing takes about three minutes.

Follow the doctor’s or dentist’s recommendations regarding how long the treatment should last.

Use for children and adolescents

This toothpaste must not be used by young people and children under 16 years of age.

If you have used too much Sodium Fluoride Morningside toothpaste, or if you have swallowed toothpaste.

If you have invested a large amount of toothpaste by mistake and if you get stomach problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, and pain in the stomach or abdomen, or if e.g. a child ingested the medicine by mistake, contact a doctor or hospital immediately for assessment of the risk and advice. Bring this leaflet.

If you constantly swallow too much toothpaste for several months and years, this can lead to dental fluorosis (discoloration or stains on the tooth enamel and brittle enamel) or skeletal fluorosis (osteosclerosis; increased bone density).

If you forget to use Sodium Fluoride Morningside toothpaste

Use the toothpaste as soon as you remember, but do not use double the amount to compensate for the missed dose. Continue treatment as usual after the next meal.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

In some rare cases (in less than 1 user in 1,000) allergic reactions ( hypersensitivity reactions ) may occur, such as skin rash, itching, swelling, and redness of the skin.

Burning sensation in the mouth has also been reported.

How to store Sodium Fluoride Morningside 5 mg / g toothpaste

Keep out of sight and reach of children.

Use the medicine before the expiry date which is stated on the tube and carton at EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month. Opened packaging is stable for a maximum of 6 months.

Reseal the tube after use. No special storage instructions.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Content declaration

  • The active substance is fluorine, in the form of sodium fluoride. 1 g of toothpaste contains 5 mg of fluoride (as sodium fluoride), corresponding to 5,000 ppm of fluorine.
