What Lymelysal Is And what It Is Used For

Lymelysal belongs to a group of medicines called tetracycline antibiotics.

Lymelysal is used to treat the following infections in adults and children over 12 years of age:

  • Moderate to severe acne
  • Sudden deterioration of bronchitis (Tracheal catarrh)
  • Pneumonia
  • Urogenital infection ( infection of the urinary tract or genital area) caused by a bacterium called chlamydia .

Lymecycline contained in Lymelysal may also be approved for the treatment of other diseases not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or another healthcare professional if you have any further questions, and always follow their instructions.

What You Need To Know Before Taking Lymelysal

Do Not Take Lymelysal

  • If you are allergic to lymphecycline or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
  • If you have kidney disease
  • If you are a child under 12 years of age
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • If you are using a retinoid medicine (such as isotretinoin, etretinate or acitretin) to treat severe acne or psoriasis or if you are taking vitamin A (more than 10,000 IU / day).

Warnings And Cautions

Talk to a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before taking Lymelysal

  • If you have liver problems
  • If you have kidney problems
  • If you have an allergic disease that causes
    • Joint pain
    • Rash
    • Fever (systemic lupus erythematosus)
  • If you have a disease that weakens the muscles (Myasthenia gravis).

You should avoid direct exposure to sunlight or artificial sunlight in tanning beds. If you get any skin problems, stop taking this medicine and consult a doctor.

Children And Young People

This medicine is not recommended for use in children under 12 years as it can cause permanent discoloration of the tooth enamel and affect the development of the skeleton.

Other Medicines And Lymelysal

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines. This also applies to over-the-counter medicines.

Do not take the following medicines at the same time as Lymelysal. You should take them at least 3 hours apart.

  • Medicines for indigestion.
  • Medicines for stomach ulcers .
  • Kinalapril (for high blood pressure ).
  • Dietary supplements containing calcium , aluminum, magnesium , zinc or iron.

Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • Oral retinoids , used to treat acne and vitamin A (more than 10,000 IU / day).
  • Anticoagulants, used to prevent blood clots.
  • Diuretics , used to treat kidney disease, heart disease or high blood pressure .
  • Birth control pills (oral contraceptives); Lymelysal can make birth control pills less effective (see section Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility ).
  • Medicines for epilepsy (such as phenobarbitone, phenytoin and carbamazepine).
  • Didanosine against HIV .
  • The anesthetic methoxiflurane.

Light Room With Food, Drink And Alcohol

Lymelysal can be taken in connection with a meal. The effect of Lymelysal may be slightly reduced if taken concomitantly with calcium-containing products such as milk. There should be at least 3 hours between intake of Lymelysal and dairy products.

Always take this medicine with a glass of water.

Pregnancy, Breastfeeding And Fertility

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Lyme disease must not be taken during pregnancy or lactation.

The use of certain drugs, such as lymphocycline, can affect growing teeth or bones, or lead to permanent discoloration of teeth.

Lymelysal can reduce the effect of birth control pills and you should therefore use additional contraceptives, e.g. condom while you are taking this medicine.

Driving And Using Machines

No studies have been performed. As this medicine may cause dizziness or visual disturbances, make sure you do not have any such symptoms before driving or using machines.

If You Take More Lymelysal Than You Should

Signs that you have taken too much Lymelysal may include

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea 

In patients with kidney problems, an overdose has resulted in liver and kidney damage.

Possible Lymelysal Side Effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If you get symptoms of the following serious side effects that occur with an unknown frequency (can not be calculated from the available data), stop taking the capsules and inform your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital.

  • Altered number or type of certain blood cells , which may occur as fatigue, bleeding from the skin and mucous membranes, bruising, tendency to infection and fever.
  • Increased pressure in the brain (headache, vomiting, visual disturbances, including blurred vision, scotoma (dark spots or flickering light in the visual field ), diplopia (double vision ) or permanent visual impairment, have been reported in association with tetracyclines , pain behind the eyes).
  • Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice), which may be a sign of inflammation of the liver or liver failure.
  • Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction include difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, tongue or throat, rash or itching (especially if the whole body is affected).
  • Symptoms of a serious illness called Stevens-Johnson syndrome include blistering and scaling of large areas of skin, sores or changes in the mouth, on the lips, genitals or around the rectal opening.
  • There have been cases of systemic lupus erythematosus, which have generally been linked to treatment with tetracyclines.

  • Headache

  • Inflammation or ulceration of the esophagus, causing pain or difficulty swallowing, or painful heartburn
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Inflammation of the pancreas
  • Liver damage or inflammation
  • Discoloration of teeth
  • Increase in urea in the blood, which can be improved if you take diuretics with Lymelysal
  • Anemia , increased white blood cell count (Eosinophilia) and other blood disorders
  • Inflammation , or tenderness, in the tongue, oral cavity, cheeks, gums or lips
  • Tenderness or itching in the genital area
  • Yeast infection around the rectal opening or genitals
  • Infection of the colon ( colon )

How To Store Lymelysal

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use Lymecycline after the expiry date which is stated on the carton or blister after “EXP”. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.
  • Do not store above 25 ° C in the original package. Moisture sensitive.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
