1. What Glucosamine Pharma Nord is and what it is used for

Glucosamine is a body-specific substance formed from glucose (a sugar). Glucosamine is needed for the body to be able to form larger molecules that are found in, among other things, synovial fluid and cartilage .

Glucosamine Pharma Nord is used to relieve the symptoms of mild to moderate joint wear and tear ( osteoarthritis ) in the knees of adults. Glucosamine Pharma Nord is not suitable for the treatment of acute pain symptoms.

2. What you need to know before you take Glucosamine Pharma Nord

Do not take Glucosamine Pharma Nord

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to glucosamine or any of the other ingredients of Glucosamine Pharma Nord.
  • if you are allergic to shellfish, as the active substance, glucosamine , is extracted from shellfish.

Warnings and cautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Glucosamine Pharma Nord:

  • if you have diabetes . Then you should consult a doctor before using Glucosamine Pharma Nord. Blood sugar levels may need to be checked more often at the beginning of treatment.
  • if you have impaired kidney function or have been prescribed a low-potassium diet. You should then consult a doctor before taking Glucosamine Pharma Nord as the product contains potassium (87 mg per capsule).

Children and young people

Glucosamine Pharma Nord should not be used by people under 18 years of age.

Other medicines and Glucosamine Pharma Nord

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Increased efficacy of drugs that affect the propensity to bleed (such as warfarin ) has been reported with concomitant glucosamine therapy . Patients treated with blood thinners should be closely monitored when initiating or discontinuing glucosamine therapy .

Do not combine Glucosamine Pharma Nord with other medicines without talking to your doctor.

Glucosamine Pharma Nord with food and drink

Glucosamine Pharma Nord should be taken with a full glass of water. The capsules can be taken independently of food

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Do not use Glucosamine Pharma Nord if you are pregnant.

Do not use Glucosamine Pharma Nord if you are breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines

Glucosamine Pharma Nord is not expected to affect your ability to drive or use machines, but if you experience fatigue or headaches from the capsules, do not drive.

3. How to take Glucosamine Pharma Nord

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor advised. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Dosage: 1 capsule 3 times daily. Alternatively, the entire dose can be taken at one time during the day.

The capsules should be taken with a full glass of water. If necessary, the capsules can be opened and the contents sprinkled over the food or emptied on a teaspoon.

It is possible that you do not observe any symptom relief (especially pain relief) before using this medicine for several weeks. In some cases, it may take even longer before symptom relief can be seen. Glucosamine Pharma Nord should not be used for more than 1 month without consulting a doctor.

If you take more Glucosamine Pharma Nord than you should

If you have ingested too much medicine or if e.g. If a child has inadvertently ingested the medicine, contact a doctor, hospital or the Poison Information Center (tel. 112) for risk assessment and advice.

Signs and symptoms of glucosamine overdose may include headache, dizziness, joint pain, nausea, vomiting, disorientation, diarrhea or constipation.

Discontinue treatment for signs of overdose.

If you forget to take Glucosamine Pharma Nord

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose . Continue treatment according to the recommendations.

If you stop taking Glucosamine Pharma Nord

Symptoms may recur.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Glucosamine Pharma Nord can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Stop taking Glucosamine Pharma Nord and contact a doctor immediately if you get any of the following symptoms ( angioedema , occurs in an unknown number of users)

  • swelling of the face, tongue or throat
  • difficulty swallowing
  • hives and difficulty breathing.

Non-serious adverse event s
If you experience any of the following non-serious adverse event is, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist:

Common (affects less than 1 user in 10): headache, drowsiness, nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation.

Uncommon (affects less than 1 user in 100): rash, itching , redness of the skin.

Has been reported (occurs in unknown numbers of users): impaired control of blood glucose in diabetics, elevated cholesterol levels, dizziness, asthma , worsening asthma , vomiting, swelling, skin swelling, hives , elevated liver values, jaundice.

Isolated cases of patients with increased blood cholesterol levels have been reported. It has not been possible to determine whether there is an association with the use of glucosamine .

5. How to store Glucosamine Pharma Nord

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after “EXP:”. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Do not store above 30 ° C.

Close the package tightly.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.
