1. What Folic Acid Evolan is and what it is used for

Folic acid Evolan contains folic acid, a B vitamin required for normal blood formation. In most cases, you get a sufficient amount of folic acid through food, but in some conditions, an extra supplement is needed. A prolonged deficiency of folic acid can manifest itself as a special kind of anemia. Folic acid Evolan is given to cure or prevent folic acid deficiency.

2. What you need to know before you take Folic Acid Evolan

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to folic acid, or any of the other ingredients of Folic Acid Evolan (listed in section 6).

Warnings and cautions

Folic acid Evolan should not be used without a doctor’s prescription, as folic acid can hide vitamin B 12 deficiency.

Other medicines and Folic acid Evolan

The treatment effect may be affected if this medicine is taken at the same time as certain other medicines. This applies primarily if you are using certain medicines for epilepsy, depression, or diabetes, as well as cholestyramine (for high blood fats), birth control pills, and certain antibiotics. Your doctor, therefore, needs to be aware of such concomitant medication.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.

How to take Folic Acid Evolan

Always take Folic Acid Evolan exactly as your doctor has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

The usual daily dose for adults: In case of anemia due to folic acid deficiency, 1 tablet of 5 mg daily is given for two weeks, after which the dose can usually be reduced to 1 tablet of 1 mg daily, a higher dose may be needed for persistent folic acid deficiency. As Folic Acid Evolan tablets with a strength of 1 mg are not available, another product should be chosen at this dosage.

The usual dose for children: In case of folic acid deficiency in children 10-18 years, 1 tablet of 1 mg per day is given. As there are no Folic Acid Evolan tablets with a strength of 1 mg, another product should be chosen in these cases.

For preventive treatment before and during pregnancy, Folic acid Evolan should be taken according to a doctor’s prescription.

If you have ingested too much medicine or if e.g. a child has inadvertently ingested the medicine, contact a doctor, hospital, or the Poison Information Center for risk assessment and advice.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Folic Acid Evolan can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

5. How to store Folic Acid Evolan

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not store above 25 ° C.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Folic acid Evolan is yellow to yellow-orange, spotted, round, flat-convex tablets with a notch on one side, diameter 7 mm.
The tablet can be divided into two equal parts.

Pack sizes of 100 and 105 tablets (pressure pack) and 1000 tablets (plastic jar).
