1. What Echinaforce comp is and what it is used for

Echinaforce comp is a traditional herbal medicine used to relieve sore throats associated with colds.

The indications for traditional herbal medicine are based solely on the experience of long-term use.

For short-term treatment only. Used for a maximum of 7 days per treatment session.

2. What you need to know before using Echinaforce comp

Do not use Echinaforce comp

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Echinacea purpurea (red sun hat), Salvia officinalis (salvia), or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
  • if you are allergic to other basket-flowered plants (eg daisies, chamomile, wormwood, or gray ivy).

Warnings and cautions

Consult a doctor or other healthcare professional if your symptoms get worse or if you get a high fever.

There is a possible risk of severe hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylactic reactions) in atopic patients. Stop taking Echinaforce comp and contact a doctor immediately if you get swelling of the face, tongue, and/or throat, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, or rash. This type of reaction may require urgent hospitalization.

Echinaforce comp may affect the immune system and should therefore not be used in combination with other drugs that affect the immune system, such as chemotherapy drugs and other cytotoxic drugs.

You should avoid using Echinaforce comp if you have a disease that affects the immune system, such as an autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus ( SLE ), and multiple sclerosis (MS), or if you have tuberculosis, sarcoidosis or leukemia. You should also not use Echinaforce comp if you are undergoing or have had an organ transplant.

Children and young people

Echinaforce comp is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as experience is limited.

Other medicines and Echinaforce comp

The effect of concomitant use of other drugs or food has not been studied.

In case of contact with a doctor or other healthcare professional, remember to mention that you are taking or have recently taken Echinaforce comp oral spray, solution.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

Use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended due to insufficient data.

The potential effect of the drug on fertility has not been studied.

Driving and using machines

Echinaforce comp has no or negligible effect on the ability to drive and use machines.

You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires sharpened attention. One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and/or side effects. Descriptions of these effects and side effects can be found in other sections. Read all the information in this leaflet for guidance. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or healthcare professional.

Echinaforce comp contains excipients

Echinaforce comp contains about 43.5% (v / v) ethanol (alcohol). Each dose of two spray puffs contains up to 163 mg of alcohol, equivalent to about 3.7 ml of strong beer (less than a teaspoon) or 1.5 ml of wine (less than half a teaspoon). You should be aware of the alcohol content if you have any liver disease or if you suffer from epilepsy or alcoholism.

Echinaforce comp contains about 20 mg soy lecithin per ml, which is equivalent to about 9 mg soy lecithin per dose (two spray puffs). If you are allergic to soy or peanuts, do not use this medicine.

Echinaforce comp contains about 442 mg sorbitol per ml, which is equivalent to about 195 mg sorbitol per dose (two spray puffs). If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

3. How to use Echinaforce comp

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor advised. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or other healthcare professional.

How to use the spray

Attach the nozzle to the spout of the bottle. Point the nozzle away from you and press the pump 2-3 times to activate the spray pump.

Shake the bottle well, place the mouthpiece in your mouth and point it at the back of your mouth. Press the pump to spray. After use, turn the nozzle back.

Dosage instructions

In case of cold symptoms, treatment should start as soon as possible.

Adults and elderly: 2 spray puffs (0.44 ml) 6 to 10 times daily.

Echinaforce comp should not be used for periods longer than 7 days per treatment session.

Use for children and adolescents

Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years. 

If you use too much Echinaforce comp  

Feeling of heat, palpitations, dizziness and epileptic seizures have been reported after greater intake of sage (equivalent to at least 15 g of sage leaves).

If you have ingested too much Echinaforce comp or if, for example, a child has inadvertently ingested medicines, contact a doctor, hospital, or the Poison Information Center for risk assessment and advice.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or other healthcare professional.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Echinaforce comp can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Common side effects (affects more than 1 user in 100): 

Rash on the oral mucosa.

Burning sensation in the throat.

For products containing Echinacea, hypersensitivity reactions in the form of skin rash with hives and itching may occur. In rare cases, severe hypersensitivity reactions may occur with swelling of the face, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, and a drop in blood pressure. The risk of allergic reactions is higher in atopic. It is unclear how common the above-mentioned side effects are.

5. How to store Echinaforce comp

Keep out of sight and reach of children.

Opened packaging must be stored at a maximum of 25 ° C and is stable for 2 months.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and the bottle label after EXP. dat. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

6. Contents of the packaging and other information

Content declaration

The amount of active substances per ml of solution is:

  • 69.1 mg extract of Echinacea purpurea (red sun hat), herb, corresponding to 245-440 mg fresh herb of a red sun hat,
  • 3.6 mg extract from Echinacea purpurea (red sun hat), root, corresponding to about 12-23 mg fresh root of red sun hat
  • 430 mg extract of Salvia officinalis (sage), leaves, corresponding to about 100-175 mg fresh leaves of sage.

Other ingredients are:

Sorbitol, ethanol (alcohol), soy lecithin (E322), sucrose fatty acid ester (E473), and peppermint oil.

What the medicine looks like and the contents of the pack

Clear, brown to the yellow-green solution.

30 ml solution in a brown glass bottle with spray pump in stainless steel and white plastic (polyethylene). Nozzle in white plastic (polypropylene and polyethylene) included in the box.
