1. What Alpenkraft is and what it is used for

Alpenkraft is a traditional herbal medicine used to relieve the symptoms of colds and temporary coughs. The indications for traditional herbal medicine are based solely on the experience of long-term use.

2. What you need to know before taking Alpenkraft

Do not take over Alpenkraft

  • You are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substances or to any of the excipients in Alpenkraft (See section 6. Other information).
  • You have known allergies to anethole, menthol, anise, fennel, or other flock-flowering plants.
  • You have asthma.
  • You have an inflammatory condition in your stomach, intestines, or gallbladder.
  • You have impaired liver function.

Other medicines and Alpenkraft

The effect of concomitant use of other drugs has not been studied.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

In the absence of adequate data, use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended.

The potential effect of the drug on fertility has not been studied.

Driving and using machines

Alpine power has no or negligible effect on the ability to drive and use machines.

You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires increased attention. One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and/or side effects. Descriptions of these effects and side effects can be found in other sections of this leaflet. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure.

Alpine power contains sugar and alcohol

15 ml Alpenkraft contains 6 g of sugar, which should be considered by people suffering from diabetes mellitus (diabetes).

Alpine power can be harmful to the teeth due to the high sugar content.

Alpine power contains 1% (v / v) ethanol (alcohol), ie. up to 200 mg per dose, equivalent to 5 ml strong beer or 2 ml wine per dose. Harmful to people with alcoholism. This should be taken into consideration by patients with liver disease or epilepsy.

Alpine power contains sucrose, fructose, and glucose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before using Alpenkraft.

3. How to take Alpenkraft

Adults and the elderly: 15 ml 3-5 times daily. The syrup should be allowed to act in the mouth before swallowing. Shake the bottle before measuring a dose.

Alpine power should not be used for more than 2 weeks per treatment session.

You should consult a doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 2 weeks.

Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years.

If you forget to take Alpenkraft

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Alpenkraft can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Rare cases of allergic reactions in the skin, respiratory tract, or gastrointestinal tract have been reported. Gastrointestinal upset or heartburn may occur.

Reporting of side effects

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly to the Medical Products Agency, www.lakemedelsverket.se. By reporting side effects, you can help increase drug safety information. 

5. How Alpenkraft should be stored

Unopened packaging should be stored at a maximum of 25 o C.

Opened packaging must be stored in a refrigerator (2 o C – 8 o C) and is then stable for 4 weeks. Do not freeze.

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the bottle label. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Light brown, cloudy syrupy liquid with aromatic smell and taste.
