Alcosanal

1. What Alcosanal is and what it is used for

Alcosanal has an astringent and decongestant effect on the anal tissue in the rectal opening, in addition, itching is relieved.

In case of temporary treatment of hemorrhoids, cracks, and eczema at the rectal opening (anal eczema). Can also be prescribed by a doctor for other indications. Relieves symptoms such as burning, itching, and pain in hemorrhoids.

2. What you need to know before using Alcosanal

Do not use Alcosanal

  • if you are allergic to sodium oleate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and cautions

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines

When using Alcosanal ointment, the reactivity is not affected.

3. How to use Alcosanal

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

The ointment is applied morning and evening.

Instructions for use

Before using Alcosanal rectal ointment, the rectal opening should be well cleaned and dry.

The package comes with an applicator, which can be screwed onto the tube and facilitate the insertion of the ointment. Before starting treatment, warm the tube in your hand. The ointment thus becomes easier to push out of the tube and with the help of the rectal tip it can be spread directly over the irritating parts.

You need to talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): Burning, itching.

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly to the Medical Products Agency, www.lakemedelsverket.se. By reporting side effects, you can help increase drug safety information. 

5. How to store Alcosanal

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the specified month.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

6. Contents of the packaging and other information

Content declaration

  • The active substance is sodium oleate 110 mg.
  • The other ingredients are Oxynex LM and 5-chlorocarvacrol ( preservative ), wool grease, liquid paraffin, oleyl oleate, glycerol, purified water.
