1. What Addex-Magnesium is and what it is used for

Addex- Magnesium is a concentrate for the solution given by healthcare professionals as an infusion into a vein ( intravenous drip). It belongs to a group of medicines called electrolyte solutions used in electrolyte deficiency. Addex- Magnesium is used for magnesium deficiency and ongoing magnesium losses, e.g. in the case of liquid drip or when you get nutrition only via a drip.

Magnesium sulfate contained in Addex- Magnesium may also be approved for the treatment of other diseases not mentioned in this product information. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or another healthcare professional if you have any further questions, and always follow their instructions.

2. What you need to know before you are given Addex-Magnesium

You should not be given Addex-Magnesium

  • if you are allergic to magnesium sulfate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and cautions

The drug must be diluted before use.

Addex- Magnesium should be used with caution in case of impaired renal function, disturbed cardiac function with disturbance of cardiac nerve function, or severe respiratory distress, and the magnesium concentration in blood and urine should be checked regularly. This will be done by healthcare professionals.

Talk to your doctor or nurse before giving Addex- Magnesium.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility

No known risks at recommended doses.

How to take Addex-Magnesium

You will usually be given this medicine by a drip into a blood vessel ( intravenous infusion ) after the solution is diluted. The infusion rate and the amount of solution you receive depend on your needs, the disease being treated, and the maximum daily dose. Your doctor will decide what is the right dose for you.

If you take more Addex Magnesium than you should

It is unlikely that you will be given too much because you will be monitored during treatment by a doctor or nurse. However, tell your doctor or nurse immediately if you think you have been given too much Addex- Magnesium. The earliest sign of overdose is decreased reflexes. Massive overdose can lead to respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

When the given dosing instructions are followed, no side effects of Addex- Magnesium have been reported.

5. How to store Addex-Magnesium

Keep out of sight and reach of children.

No special storage instructions.

Do not use it if you notice that the packaging is damaged or if the solution is not ready.
