1. What Eldepryl is and what it is used for<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Eldepryl is a drug used to treat Parkinson’s disease. It can be used alone in the early stages of the disease or later with medicines containing levodopa or other Parkinson’s treatment. Medicines containing levodopa are given to most patients with Parkinson’s disease.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eldepryl relieves Parkinson’s symptoms in the early stages of the disease and prolongs the time until it is necessary to start treatment with levodopa. In patients with the newly diagnosed disease, a combination of Eldepryl and levodopa will delay the development of the disease. At a later stage, when Eldepryl is used as a supplement to levodopa, Eldepryl prolongs the effect of levodopa. This makes it possible to reduce the dose of levodopa.

What you need to know before taking Eldepryl<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Do not take Eldepryl:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

– if you are allergic to selegiline or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– if you have an active duodenum – or stomach ulcer<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– in combination with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

monoamine oxidase inhibitors ( MAOIs ) eg linezolid<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warnings and cautions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

if you have:

Other medicines and Eldepryl<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.

Medicines not to be used with Eldepryl:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effect of the treatment can be affected if Eldepryl is combined with pethidine, a strong painkiller that is often used in surgery. If you are going to have a surgical procedure, you should tell your doctor that you are taking Eldepryl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eldepryl should not be taken with sympathomimetics (medicines that work on the sympathetic nervous system).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eldepryl may also potentiate the effects of certain medicines used to treat depression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The usual dose for adults:<\/em> as a single dose in the morning: 1 tablet of 10 mg or 2 tablets of 5 mg.
