What Ebymect is and what it is used for<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ebymect contains two different active substances called dapagliflozin and&nbsp;metformin.&nbsp;Both belong to a group of medicines called oral diabetes medicines.&nbsp;These are medicines that are taken orally for&nbsp;diabetes.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ebymect is used for a type of&nbsp;diabetes&nbsp;called &#8220;type 2 diabetes&#8221; in adult patients (18 years and older).&nbsp;If you have type 2&nbsp;diabetes, your&nbsp;pancreas&nbsp;does not&nbsp;produce&nbsp;enough&nbsp;insulin&nbsp;or your body cannot use the&nbsp;insulin&nbsp;that is&nbsp;produced&nbsp;properly.&nbsp;This leads to a high level of sugar (&nbsp;glucose&nbsp;) in the blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Dapagliflozin works by removing excess sugar from the body through the urine and lowering the amount of sugar in the blood.&nbsp;It can also help prevent heart disease.<\/li><li>Metformin&nbsp;works primarily by&nbsp;inhibiting&nbsp;glucose production in the liver.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For the treatment of type 2 diabetes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This medicine is used in combination with diet and exercise.<\/li><li>This medicine is used if your&nbsp;diabetes&nbsp;cannot be controlled with other medicines used to treat&nbsp;diabetes.<\/li><li>Your doctor may ask you to take this medicine alone or with other medicines to treat&nbsp;diabetes.&nbsp;It can be another medicine that is taken as tablets and\/or a medicine that is given by&nbsp;injection.<\/li><li>If you are already taking both dapagliflozin and&nbsp;metformin&nbsp;as separate tablets, your doctor may ask you to switch to this medicine.&nbsp;To avoid overdose, do not continue to take dapagliflozin and metformin tablets if you are taking Ebymect.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to continue to follow the advice on diet and exercise that you have received from your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Tell your doctor before taking this medicine if you have any of these signs.<\/li><li>if you are taking medicines that lower&nbsp;blood pressure&nbsp;(antihypertensive drugs) and have had low&nbsp;blood pressure&nbsp;(&nbsp;hypotension&nbsp;).&nbsp;More information is given below under &#8220;Other medicines and Ebymect&#8221;.<\/li><li>if you often get urinary tract infections.&nbsp;This medicine may cause urinary tract infections and your doctor may need to monitor you more closely.&nbsp;Your doctor may consider changing your treatment temporarily if you get a serious&nbsp;infection.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If any of the above apply to you (or you are not sure), talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking this medicine.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talk to your doctor immediately if you experience a combination of symptoms such as pain, tenderness,&nbsp;redness,&nbsp;or swelling of the genitals or the area between the genitals and the rectum along with fever or general malaise.&nbsp;These symptoms can be a sign of a rare but serious and in the worst-case life-threatening&nbsp;infection&nbsp;called&nbsp;necrotizing&nbsp;fasciitis of the perineum or Fournier&#8217;s gangrene which destroys&nbsp;the tissue under the skin.&nbsp;Fournier&#8217;s gangrene must be treated immediately.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Operation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are going to have a major operation, you must stop taking Ebymect during the operation and for some time after it.&nbsp;Your doctor will decide when you need to stop taking Ebymect and when you should start taking it again.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Renal function<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your kidneys should be checked before you start taking Ebymect.&nbsp;During treatment with this medicine, your doctor will check your kidney function at least once a year or more often if you are older and\/or if your kidney function is deteriorating.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chiropody<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to check your feet regularly and to follow the advice on foot care provided by healthcare professionals.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sugar in the urine<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of the effect of this medicine, your urine will show positive test results for sugar when you take this medicine.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elderly (65 years and older)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are older, there may be a higher risk that your kidneys are not working well and that you are being treated with other medicines (see also &#8220;Kidney function&#8221;
