What CELSENTRI is and what it is used for<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CELSENTRI contains a substance called maravirok.&nbsp;Maraviroc belongs to a class of drugs called CCR5&nbsp;<em>antagonist&nbsp;you<\/em>&nbsp;.&nbsp;CELSENTRI works by blocking a&nbsp;receptor&nbsp;called CCR5, which&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;uses to enter and infect your blood cells.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CELSENTRI is used to treat human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (&nbsp;HIV-&nbsp;1&nbsp;) in adults,&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>adolescents and children from 2 years of age weighing at least 10 kg.<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CELSENTRI must be taken in combination with other drugs that are also used to treat&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;infection&nbsp;a.&nbsp;These medicines&nbsp;<em>are called anti-&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;medicines<\/em>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<em>antiretroviral medicines.<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CELSENTRI, as part of a combination treatment, reduces the amount of&nbsp;virus&nbsp;in your body and keeps it at a low level.&nbsp;This helps your body increase the amount of CD4 cells in your blood.&nbsp;CD4 cells are a type of&nbsp;white blood cell&nbsp;that are important in helping your body fight&nbsp;infection&nbsp;.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. slowly as possible.<br><\/li><li><strong>tuberculosis<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;(TB)<\/strong>&nbsp;or a serious<strong>&nbsp;fungal infection<\/strong>&nbsp;.&nbsp;CELSENTRI may increase the risk of people<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HIV&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;infection&nbsp;a spread through sexual contact with someone with&nbsp;infection&nbsp;an, or by&nbsp;transfusion&nbsp;of infected blood (for example by sharing needles).&nbsp;You (or your child) can still transmit&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;infection when you take this medicine, even though the risk of effective treatment is reduced.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Talk to your doctor about how to avoid infecting others.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elderly<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CELSENTRI has only been taken by a limited number of people aged 65 or older.&nbsp;If you belong to this age group, discuss with your doctor if you can use CELSENTRI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of CELSENTRI has not been tested in children younger than 2 years or weighing less than 10 kg.&nbsp;CELSENTRI is therefore not recommended (or your child) start taking a new medicine while you are being treated with CELSENTRI.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medicines containing&nbsp;<strong>St. John&#8217;s wort<\/strong>&nbsp;(&nbsp;<em>Hypericum perforatum<\/em>&nbsp;) can probably prevent CELSENTRI from working properly.&nbsp;<strong>You should not take such medicines while taking CELSENTRI.<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some medicines can change the concentrations of CELSENTRI in the body when taken at the same time as CELSENTRI.&nbsp;These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>other drugs for fosamprenavir, indinavir, lopinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, boceprevir, telaprevir)<\/li><li><strong>antibiotics<\/strong>&nbsp;(clarithromycin, telithromycin, rifampicin, rifabutin)<\/li><li><strong>medicines for fungal infections<\/strong>&nbsp;(&nbsp;ketoconazole&nbsp;, itraconazole,&nbsp;fluconazole&nbsp;).<\/li><li><strong>antiepileptics<\/strong>&nbsp;(eg carbamazepine,&nbsp;phenytoin&nbsp;, phenobarbital).<\/li><li><strong>Tell your doctor<\/strong>&nbsp;if you (or your child) are taking any of these medicines.&nbsp;The doctor can then&nbsp;prescribe&nbsp;the correct&nbsp;dose&nbsp;one of CELSENTRI.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pregnancy and breastfeeding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are pregnant, getting pregnant or planning to have children:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Talk to your doctor<\/strong>&nbsp;about the risks and benefits of taking advanced&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;infection&nbsp;(&nbsp;AIDS&nbsp;) have weak immune systems and are at greater risk of developing serious&nbsp;infection&nbsp;you (&nbsp;<em>opportunistic&nbsp;infection&nbsp;s<\/em>&nbsp;).&nbsp;When they start treatment, the immune system becomes stronger and the body begins to fight&nbsp;infection&nbsp;.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Symptoms of&nbsp;infection&nbsp;and&nbsp;inflammation<\/strong>&nbsp;can develop due to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>old hidden&nbsp;infection&nbsp;flares up again when the body starts fighting them<\/li><li>the immune system attacks healthy body tissue&nbsp;<em>(autoimmune diseases<\/em>&nbsp;).<br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The symptoms of autoimmune diseases<\/strong>&nbsp;may develop several months after anti-&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;infection&nbsp;one the above symptoms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Tell your doctor immediately<\/strong>&nbsp;.&nbsp;Do not take other medicines for&nbsp;infection&nbsp;one without consulting your doctor.<br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Joint pain, stiffness and skeletal problems<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some patients treated with combination therapy for&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;develop a condition called&nbsp;<em>osteonecrosis<\/em>&nbsp;.&nbsp;In this condition, parts of the bone tissue die due to reduced blood supply.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not known how common this condition is.&nbsp;You may be at greater risk of getting it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>if you have been treated with combination therapy for a long time<\/li><li>if you are also taking
