for injection Terlipressin SUN is a synthetic pituitary hormone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Terlipressin SUN is used to treat bleeding from veins in the esophagus, leading down to the stomach (bleeding oesophageal varices ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n The terlipressin contained in Terlipressin SUN may also be approved to treat other conditions not mentioned in this leaflet.\u00a0Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or other healthcare professional if you have further questions, and always follow their instructions. This medicine is given to you if you have serious or life-threatening bleeding in the gullet (esophagus).<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is given under continuous monitoring of your heart and blood circulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you can, tell the doctor if you suffer from any of the following conditions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Terlipressin SUN is not recommended for use in children and adolescents due to insufficient experience.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Tell the doctor or nurse if you are using, have recently used, or might be using other medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Inform the doctor immediately if you are using any of the following medicines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Terlipressin SUN should only be used during pregnancy if the treatment is vital for you.\u00a0If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, consult your doctor before being given this medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is not known whether Terlipressin SUN is present in breast milk. Therefore, possible effects on your child are not known. You should discuss the potential risk to your child with a doctor.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n No studies have been carried out regarding the effects on the ability to drive vehicles and use machines.\u00a0Therefore, you should not drive or operate machinery if you feel unwell after receiving an\u00a0injection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires increased attention.\u00a0One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and\/or\u00a0side effects.\u00a0A description of these effects and\u00a0side effects\u00a0can be found in other sections.\u00a0Read all the information in this leaflet for guidance.\u00a0Discuss with a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This medicinal product contains 15.7 mmol (or 361 mg)\u00a0of sodium\u00a0per\u00a0dose.\u00a0This should be taken into account by patients prescribed a low-salt diet. This medicine is always administered by a doctor. Ask the doctor for further information regarding its use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How much Terlipressin SUN is given<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Adults<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Initially, 1-2 mg of terlipressin acetate (equivalent to 8.5-17 ml\u00a0solution for injection\u00a0) is given via\u00a0injection\u00a0into the vein.\u00a0Your\u00a0dose\u00a0depends on your body weight.\u00a0After the initial\u00a0injection, the\u00a0dose\u00a0can be reduced to 1 mg of terlipressin acetate (equivalent to 8.5 ml of solution) every 4 to 6 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The maximum dose you can receive each day is approximately 120 micrograms\/kg body weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Older<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n If you are older than 70 years, you should talk to your doctor before you are given Terlipressin SUN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How Terlipressin SUN is given<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Terlipressin SUN should be injected slowly\u00a0and intravenously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How often you will be given Terlipressin SUN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Use is limited to 2-3 days depending on the course of your condition.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n You must not use more than the recommended\u00a0dose\u00a0of Terlipressin SUN.\u00a0If you get too much, your\u00a0blood pressure\u00a0can rise quickly, especially if you already suffer from high\u00a0blood pressure.\u00a0If this happens, you need another medicine called an alpha\u00a0blocker\u00a0(eg\u00a0clonidine\u00a0) to control\u00a0blood pressure,\u00a0etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tell the doctor if you feel dizzy or faint as this may be a sign of a low heart rate. This can be treated with a medicine called atropine.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n You will be given Terlipressin SUN in the hospital under the doctor’s supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you have any further questions about this medicine, ask your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Like all medicines, this medicine can cause\u00a0side effects, although not everybody gets them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Important side effects or signs you should be aware of and measures to be taken if you are affected<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Serious\u00a0side effects\u00a0are possible in very rare cases when you are given terlipressin.\u00a0If you are affected by any of the following\u00a0side effects, tell the doctor immediately if you can.\u00a0The doctor should not give you more terlipressin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pronounced shortness of breath due to an asthma attack, great difficulty in breathing or cessation of breathing, pronounced pain in the chest (angina), pronounced and persistent irregular heartbeat, local dead skin (\u00a0necrosis\u00a0), convulsions (seizures),\u00a0kidney failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other possible\u00a0side effects\u00a0are<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n – too little sodium in the blood ( hyponatremia ) if not controlled<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n – dead skin ( necrosis ) in areas other than the injection site<\/p>\n\n\n\n – rapid increase in blood pressure et<\/p>\n\n\n\n – too high heart rate ( palpitations )<\/p>\n\n\n\n – swelling of tissue in the body or fluid in the lungs<\/p>\n\n\n\n
