Posaconazole uses, dose and side effects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>100 mg&nbsp;enteric-tablet&nbsp;is<br>posaconazole<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Posaconazole Accord is and what it is used for<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Posaconazole Accord contains a drug called posaconazole.&nbsp;It belongs to a group of medicines called &#8220;antifungal medicines&#8221;.&nbsp;It is used to prevent or treat many different fungal infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This medicine works by killing or stopping the growth of certain types of fungi that can cause\u00a0infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Posaconazole Accord can be used in adults to treat the following types of fungal infections when other antifungal medicines have not worked or you have stopped taking them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>infection\u00a0er, caused by fungi of the family\u00a0<em>Aspergillus<\/em>, which have not improved in treatment with the antifungal drugs amphotericin B or itraconazole or when it has been necessary to discontinue treatment with these drugs.<\/li><li>infection\u00a0er, caused by fungi of the family Fusarium, which have not improved during treatment with amphotericin B or when it has been necessary to discontinue treatment with amphotericin B.<\/li><li>infections, caused by fungi that cause the conditions &#8216;chromoblastomycosis&#8217; and &#8216;mycetoma&#8217;, which have not improved with treatment with itraconazole or when it has been necessary to discontinue treatment with itraconazole.<\/li><li>infection\u00a0er, caused by fungi called Coccidioides, which have not improved with treatment with one or more of the drugs amphotericin B, itraconazole, or\u00a0fluconazole\u00a0or when it has been necessary to discontinue treatment with these drugs.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This medicine can also be used to prevent fungal infections in adults who are at high risk of getting a fungal infection such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>patients who have a weak immune system due to\u00a0chemotherapy\u00a0for &#8220;acute\u00a0myeloid\u00a0leukemia&#8221; (AML) or &#8220;myelodysplastic syndrome&#8221; (MDS)<\/li><li>Patients using a high-dose\u00a0treatment that inhibits the immune system following \u201chematopoietic stem cell transplantation\u201d (\u00a0HSCT\u00a0).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you need to know before you take Posaconazole Accord<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do not take Posaconazole Accord:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>if you are allergic to posaconazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).<\/li><li>if you are taking: terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, halofantrine,\u00a0quinidine, medicines containing &#8216;ergot alkaloids&#8217; such as\u00a0ergotamine\u00a0or dihydroergotamine, or a &#8216;statin&#8217; such as\u00a0simvastatin, atorvastatin or lovastatin.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not take Posaconazole Accord if any of the above apply to you.&nbsp;If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Posaconazole Accord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>See the section \u201cOther medicines and Posaconazole Accord\u201d below for more information including information on other medicines that may affect Posaconazole Accord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Warnings and cautions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before taking Posaconazole Accord:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>if you have had an\u00a0allergic reaction\u00a0to any other antifungal medicines such as\u00a0ketoconazole,\u00a0fluconazole, itraconazole, and voriconazole.<\/li><li>if you have or have ever had liver problems.\u00a0You may need to take blood samples while taking this medicine.<\/li><li>if you develop severe diarrhea or vomiting, as these conditions may limit the effect of this medicine.<\/li><li>if you have an abnormal heart rhythm, on examination (\u00a0ECG\u00a0), which indicates a problem called long QTc interval.<\/li><li>if you have a weakness in the heart muscle or\u00a0heart failure.<\/li><li>if you have a very slow heartbeat.<\/li><li>if you have any kind of heart rhythm disorder.<\/li><li>if you have any kind of problem with your blood levels of\u00a0potassium,\u00a0magnesium,\u00a0or\u00a0calcium.<\/li><li>if you are taking vincristine, vinblastine, or other &#8216;vinca alkaloids&#8217; (medicines used to treat cancer).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If any of the above apply to you (or you are not sure) talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before taking Posaconazole Accord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you develop severe diarrhea or vomiting (feeling unwell) while taking Posaconazole Accord, talk to a doctor, pharmacist, or nurse immediately as this may prevent it from working properly.\u00a0See section 4 for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Posaconazole Accord should not be given to children (17 years and younger).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other medicines and Posaconazole Accord<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do not take Posaconazole Accord if you take any of the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>terfenadine (used to treat&nbsp;allergies&nbsp;)<\/li><li>astemizole (used to treat&nbsp;allergies&nbsp;)<\/li><li>cisapride (used to treat stomach upset)<\/li><li>pimozide (used to treat symptoms of&nbsp;Tourette&#8217;s syndrome&nbsp;)<\/li><li>halofantrine (used to treat&nbsp;malaria&nbsp;)<\/li><li>quinidine&nbsp;(used to treat abnormal heart rhythms).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Posaconazole Accord can increase the amount of these medicines in the blood which can cause very serious disorders of your heart rhythm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>drugs that contain &#8220;ergot alkaloids&#8221; such as\u00a0ergotamine\u00a0or dihydroergotamine which are used to treat\u00a0migraines.\u00a0Posaconazole Accord can increase the amount of these drugs in the blood which can lead to a sharp decrease in blood flow to your fingers or toes and cause damage.<\/li><li>a &#8220;statin&#8221; such as\u00a0simvastatin, atorvastatin, or lovastatin is used to treat high\u00a0cholesterol.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not take Posaconazole Accord if any of the above apply to you.&nbsp;If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other drugs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>See the list above of medicines that must not be used while you are taking Posaconazole Accord.\u00a0In addition to the medicines mentioned above, other medicines carry a risk of arrhythmias that can be greater when taken with Posaconazole Accord.\u00a0Tell your doctor about any medicines you take (prescription or over-the-counter).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some medicines may increase the risk of&nbsp;side effects&nbsp;of Posaconazole Accord by increasing the amount of Posaconazole Accord in the blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following medicines may reduce the effect of Posaconazole Accord by reducing the amount of Posaconazole Accord in your blood:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>rifabutin and rifampicin (used to treat certain\u00a0infections\u00a0).\u00a0If you are already being treated with rifabutin, your blood counts must be tested and certain probable\u00a0side effects\u00a0of rifabutin monitored.<\/li><li>certain medicines used to treat or prevent epileptic seizures, including\u00a0phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, or primidone.<\/li><li>efavirenz and fosamprenavir are used to\u00a0treat\u00a0HIV\u00a0infection.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Posaconazole Accord may increase the risk of&nbsp;side effects&nbsp;from certain other medicines by increasing the amount of these medicines in the blood.&nbsp;These medicines include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>vincristine, vinblastine, and other &#8220;vinca alkaloids&#8221; (used to treat cancer)<\/li><li>ciclosporin (used during or after transplant surgery)<\/li><li>tacrolimus and sirolimus (used during or after transplant surgery)<\/li><li>rifabutin (used to treat certain\u00a0infections\u00a0)<\/li><li>antiviral medicines\u00a0called\u00a0protease\u00a0inhibitors\u00a0(including lopinavir and atazanavir given with ritonavir)<\/li><li>midazolam, triazolam, alprazolam or other &#8216;benzodiazepines&#8217; (used as sedatives or muscle relaxants)<\/li><li>diltiazem, verapamil, nifedipine, nisoldipine, or other &#8216;calcium channel blockers (used to treat high\u00a0blood pressure\u00a0)<\/li><li>digoxin\u00a0(used to treat\u00a0heart failure\u00a0)<\/li><li>glipizide or other &#8216;sulfonylureas&#8217;
