transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI)<\/li><li>emtricitabine is a reverse nucleotide-type transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI)<\/li><li>tenofovir is a nucleotide-type reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Padviram contains three active substances<\/strong>&nbsp;that are used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;) infection:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These three active substances are antiretroviral drugs that act by affecting the normal function of an&nbsp;enzyme&nbsp;(reverse transcriptase) that the&nbsp;virus&nbsp;needs for its reproduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Padviram is a treatment for human immunodeficiency virus (&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;)&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;infection in adults aged 18 years and older who have previously been treated with other antiretroviral drugs and who have had their&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;-1&nbsp;infection&nbsp;under control for at least three months.&nbsp;Patients must not have shown treatment failure with previous&nbsp;HIV&nbsp;treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil contained in Padviram may also be approved for the treatment of other conditions not mentioned class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you need to know before you take Padviram<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do not take Padviram<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>If you are allergic<\/strong>\u00a0to efavirenz, emtricitabine, tenofovir, tenofovir disoproxil, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).<\/li><li>If you have severe liver disease.<\/li><li>If you have heart problems, such as an arrhythmia called\u00a0QT\u00a0prolongation.\u00a0This can lead to a high risk of developing severe heart rhythm problems (\u00a0torsade de pointes\u00a0).<\/li><li>If someone in your family (parents, grandparents, brothers, or sisters) has died suddenly due to heart problems or was born with heart problems.<\/li><li>If your doctor has anti-malarial<strong>\u00a0drugs<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>methadone<\/strong>\u00a0(for the treatment of opioid dependence).<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2192&nbsp;<strong>If you are taking any of these medicines, tell your doctor immediately.&nbsp;<\/strong>Taking these medicines together with Padviram may cause serious or life-threatening&nbsp;side effects&nbsp;or counteract the effects of these medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Warnings and cautions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>You can still transmit\u00a0HIV\u00a0infection while <\/strong>taking this medicine, even though the risk of effective\u00a0antiviral\u00a0therapy is reduced.\u00a0Discuss with your doctor the necessary steps to avoid infecting others.\u00a0This medicine does not\u00a0cure\u00a0HIV\u00a0infection.\u00a0While you are taking this medicine, you may still develop\u00a0infections\u00a0or other diseases associated\u00a0with\u00a0HIV\u00a0infection.<\/li><li>You must continue to be under medical supervision while taking this medicine.<\/li><li>Inform your doctor:<ul><li>if you are taking other medicines\u00a0\u00a0containing efavirenz, emtricitabine, tenofovir disoproxil, tenofoviralafenamide, <a href=\"https:\/\/zeepedia.com\/medical\/medicines\/triumeq\/\">lamivudine<\/a> or adefovir dipivoxi.\u00a0This medicine should not be taken with any of these medicines.<\/li><li>if you have or have had kidney disease\u00a0or if tests have shown that you have kidney problems.\u00a0This medicine is not recommended if you have moderate to severe kidney disease.<br>This medicine may affect your being treated with anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, and\u00a0phenytoin.\u00a0If you are taking any of these medicines, your doctor may need to check how much of the medicine is in your bloodstream to ensure that it is not affected when you take this medicine.\u00a0Your doctor may give you another medicine for seizures.<\/li><li>if you have had liver disease, including chronic active\u00a0hepatitis.\u00a0Patients with liver disease, including\u00a0chronic\u00a0hepatitis\u00a0B or C, who are being treated with combination antivirals are at increased risk for serious and potentially life-threatening liver problems.\u00a0Your doctor may take blood samples to check your liver function or allow you to switch to another medicine.\u00a0If you have severe liver disease, do not take Padviram\u00a0(see section 2,\u00a0Do not take Padviram).<br>If you have a hepatitis B\u00a0infection, your doctor will carefully choose the best treatment for you.\u00a0Tenofovir disoproxil and emtricitabine, two of the active substances in this medicine, have some activity against the hepatitis B\u00a0virus\u00a0even though emtricitabine is not approved for the treatment of hepatitis B\u00a0infection.\u00a0The symptoms of your hepatitis may worsen after you stop taking this medicine.\u00a0Your doctor may then take blood samples regularly to check your liver function (see section 3,\u00a0\u00a0If you stop taking Padviram).<\/li><li>Whether or not you have had liver disease, your doctor will consider taking regular blood tests to check your liver function.<\/li><li>if you are closely.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>When you start taking Padviram you should be observant of:<ul><li>symptoms such as dizziness, difficulty sleeping, drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, or abnormal dreams.\u00a0These side effects may occur in the first 1 to 2 days after treatment and usually disappear after 2 to 4 weeks.<\/li><li>symptoms of rash.\u00a0This medicine may cause a rash.\u00a0If you get a severe rash with blistering or fever, stop taking Padviram and tell your doctor straight away.\u00a0If you get a rash while taking another NNRTI, you may be at greater risk of getting a rash with this medicine.<\/li><li>symptoms of inflammation or infection.\u00a0In some patients with advanced\u00a0HIV\u00a0infection (\u00a0AIDS\u00a0) and who have previously had opportunistic\u00a0infections, signs and symptoms of\u00a0inflammation\u00a0from previous\u00a0infections\u00a0may appear shortly after starting treatment for HIV.\u00a0These symptoms are probably due to an improvement in the body&#8217;s\u00a0immune response, which enables the body to fight\u00a0infections\u00a0that may have been present but without any obvious symptoms.\u00a0Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any symptoms of\u00a0infection.<br>In addition to opportunistic\u00a0infections, autoimmune disorders (conditions in which the immune system attacks healthy body tissues) can also occur after you start taking medicines to treat\u00a0your\u00a0HIV\u00a0infection.\u00a0Autoimmune disorders can occur several months after starting treatment.\u00a0If you get any symptoms of\u00a0infection\u00a0or other symptoms such as muscle weakness, weakness that starts in the hands or feet and moves to the torso, palpitations, tremors, or hyperactivity, inform your doctor immediately for the necessary treatment.<\/li><li>skeletal problems.\u00a0Some patients receiving combination\u00a0antiretroviral\u00a0therapy may develop a skeletal disease problems (which manifest as persistent or aggravated skeletal pain and sometimes lead to\u00a0fractures\u00a0) may also occur due to damage to renal tubules (see section 4,\u00a0Possible\u00a0side effects\u00a0).\u00a0Tell your doctor if you have skeletal pain or\u00a0a fracture.<br>Tenofovir disoproxil may also cause bone loss.\u00a0The most pronounced loss of bone mass was seen in\u00a0clinical trials\u00a0when patients were treated with tenofovir disoproxil in combination with an enhanced\u00a0protease inhibitor.<br>Overall, the effects of tenofovir disoproxil on long-term skeletal health and future fracture risk in adults and children are uncertain.<br>Tell your doctor if you know you have osteoporosis.\u00a0Patients with bone beauty are at higher risk for\u00a0fractures.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Children and young people<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Padviram should not be given to children and adolescents <\/strong>under 18 years of age.\u00a0This medicine has not yet been studied in children and adolescents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other medicines and Padviram<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You must not take certain medicines with Padviram.\u00a0<\/strong>These are listed under\u00a0\u00a0<em>Do not take Padviram<\/em>, at the beginning of section 2 and include some common medicines and some herbal medicines (including St. John&#8217;s wort) which may cause serious\u00a0interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell your doctor <\/strong>or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, this medicine should not be taken with other medicines containing efavirenz (unless your doctor recommends it), emtricitabine, tenofovir disoproxil, tenofoviralafenamide, lamivudine or adefovir dipivoxil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell your doctor<\/strong>&nbsp;if you are taking other medicines that may damage your kidneys.&nbsp;Examples of such drugs are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>aminoglycosides, vancomycin (medicine for bacterial infection)<\/li><li>foskarnet, ganciclovir, cidofovir (medicines for viral infections)<\/li><li>amphotericin B, pentamidine (medicine for fungal infections)<\/li><li>interleukin\u00a0-2 (for the treatment of cancer)<\/li><li>non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (\u00a0NSAIDs, to relieve skeletal or muscle pain).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Padviram may interact with other medicines, including herbal medicines such as\u00a0\u00a0<em>Ginkgo biloba<\/em>\u00a0extract.\u00a0As a result, the amount of Padviram or other medicines in the blood may be affected.\u00a0This can lead to the medicines not working properly or the side effects getting worse.\u00a0In some cases, your doctor may need to adjust your\u00a0dose\u00a0or check your blood levels.\u00a0You must tell<strong> your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Drugs containing didanosine (for HIV\u00a0infection\u00a0):\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0If you take this medicine together with other antiviral medicines containing didanosine, your blood levels of didanosine may increase and your CD4 cell count may decrease.\u00a0Rare cases of pancreatitis and lactic acidosis (excess lactic acid in the blood), in some cases fatal, have been reported during concomitant treatment with drugs containing tenofovir disoproxil and didanosine.\u00a0Your doctor will carefully consider whether you can be treated with medicines containing tenofovir and didanosine.<\/li><li><strong>Other medicines used to treat HIV infection:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0The following treatment with this medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you could become pregnant during treatment with Padviram<\/strong>, you must use a reliable barrier contraceptive method (eg condoms) together with other contraceptive methods such as tablets (\u00a0birth control pills\u00a0) or other hormonal contraceptive methods (eg\u00a0implants,\u00a0injection\u00a0).\u00a0Efavirenz, one of the ingredients of this medicine, may remain in the blood for some time after stopping treatment.\u00a0You should therefore continue to use contraception, as described above, for 12 weeks after stopping taking this medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.&nbsp;<\/strong>If you are pregnant, you should only take Padviram if you your baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Driving and using machines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Padviram may cause dizziness, impaired concentration,nd drowsiness.\u00a0<\/strong>If you get these symptoms, do not drive, use any tools or machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires sharpened class=\"wp-block-heading\">Padviram contains sodium<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This medicine contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg)&nbsp;sodium&nbsp;per tablet, ie essentially &#8216;sodium-free&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to take Padviram<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.&nbsp;Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The recommended dose is:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One tablet once a day by mouth.&nbsp;Padviram is recommended to be taken on an empty stomach (usually defined as 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal), preferably at bedtime.&nbsp;This may help reduce certain side effects (eg dizziness, drowsiness).&nbsp;Swallow the tablet whole with water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Padviram must be taken every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your doctor decides to remove one of the ingredients of this medicine, you may receive efavirenz, emtricitabine,
