Otrivin Comp is a combination drug that consists of two different substances. One active substance helps with colds, the other has a decongestant effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Otrivin Comp is used for nasal congestion and runny nose ( rhinorrhea ) in connection with common colds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
to children under 18 years of age as sufficient information describing safety and efficacy is not available<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– if you are allergic to xylometazoline hydrochloride or ipratropium bromide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– if you are hypersensitive to atropine or similar atropine-like substances, e.g. such as hyoscyamine and scopolamine<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– if you have had a pituitary gland removed by surgery through your nose<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– if you have had an operation on your brain and the operation was performed through your nose or mouth<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– if you have glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– if you have a very dry nose (\u00a0inflammatory\u00a0dry nose, rhinitis sicca, or atrophic\u00a0rhinitis\u00a0)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Otrivin Comp may cause you to have sleep disturbances, dizziness,\u00a0tremor, irregular heartbeat, or increased\u00a0blood pressure\u00a0if you are sensitive to medicines that relieve nasal congestion.\u00a0Consult your doctor if these symptoms occur and are troublesome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Otrivin Comp if you suffer from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– heart disease (eg long QT syndrome)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– high blood pressure<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– diabetes<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– increased release of thyroid hormone ( hyperthyroidism )<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– difficulty urinating and\/or enlarged\u00a0prostate<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– glaucoma with narrow ventricular angle<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– to easily suffer from nosebleeds<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– intestinal upset (paralytic ileus )<\/p>\n\n\n\n
– cystic fibrosis<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a benign adrenal\u00a0tumor\u00a0(\u00a0pheochromocytoma\u00a0) that produces large amounts of\u00a0adrenaline\u00a0and\u00a0norepinephrine, or a particular sensitivity to\u00a0adrenaline\u00a0and\u00a0norepinephrine<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rapid hypersensitivity reaction (\u00a0allergic reaction\u00a0) may occur.\u00a0This can be experienced as an itchy red inflamed rash on the skin (\u00a0hives\u00a0), difficulty breathing or speaking, difficulty swallowing due to swollen lips, or swelling of the face or throat.\u00a0These symptoms may occur individually or together as a severe\u00a0allergic reaction.\u00a0If this happens, STOP using Otrivin Comp immediately (see section 4).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Otrivin Comp should not be used for more than 7 consecutive days. If symptoms persist, consult a physician for advice. Prolonged or excessive use may cause nasal congestion to recur or worsen as well as swelling of the nasal mucosa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Avoid spraying Otrivin Comp into or around the eye. If Otrivin Comp still comes into contact with your eyes, rinse thoroughly with cold water. You may experience temporary blurred vision, irritation, pain, redness of the eyes. Contact a doctor for advice if this occurs. Deterioration of glaucoma can also develop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Otrivin Comp is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years due to a lack of data on safety and efficacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are taking any of the above medicines, talk to your doctor before using Otrivin Comp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Otrivin Comp should be used during pregnancy only on the advice of a doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Otrivin Comp should be used during breastfeeding only if the doctor considers that the benefits outweigh the potential risks to the baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visual disturbances (including blurred vision and pupillary enlargement\u00a0), dizziness, and fatigue have been reported with Otrivin Comp.\u00a0If you are affected, avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities where these symptoms may\u00a0put\u00a0yourself or others at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You are responsible for assessing whether you are fit to drive a motor vehicle or perform work that requires sharpened attention.\u00a0One of the factors that can affect your ability in these respects is the use of drugs due to their effects and\/or\u00a0side effects.\u00a0Descriptions of these effects and\u00a0side effects\u00a0can be found in other sections.\u00a0Read all the information in this leaflet for guidance.\u00a0If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.\u00a0Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The recommended dose is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Adults:<\/em>\u00a0A spray dose in each nostril if necessary up to 3 times daily for a maximum of 7 days.\u00a0Let at least 6 hours pass between two\u00a0doses.\u00a0Do not exceed 3 sprays daily in each nostril.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Do not exceed the indicated dose one. Use the lowest dose needed to achieve the desired effect for the shortest possible treatment time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Duration of treatment: Do not use this medicine for more than 7 days.\u00a0To reduce the risk of\u00a0side effects, it is recommended that you stop taking Otrivin Comp when your symptoms improve;\u00a0even if less than 7 days have elapsed.\u00a0Ask your doctor if the symptoms worsen or do not get better within 7 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you have the impression that the effect of Otrivin Comp is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Instructions for use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
