Warnings and cautions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
You will only be given Nyxoid after you or the person giving the medicine have been shown how to use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It should be given immediately and does not replace emergency medical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Call an ambulance in case of suspected opioid overdose.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Signs and symptoms of opioid overdose may recur after this nasal spray is given.\u00a0If this happens, an additional\u00a0dose\u00a0may be given to you after 2 to 3 minutes with a new nasal spray.\u00a0The patient should be closely monitored after receiving this medicine until the emergency personnel arrives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Conditions you should watch out for<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 If you are physically addicted to\u00a0opioids\u00a0or if you have been given high\u00a0doses\u00a0of\u00a0opioids\u00a0(eg heroin,\u00a0methadone,\u00a0fentanyl, oxycodone, buprenorphine, or morphine).\u00a0You may experience severe withdrawal symptoms with this medicine (see section 4 below in this leaflet under “Conditions you should be careful of”).<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 If you are taking opioids to relieve pain. The pain may increase when you receive Nyxoid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 If you are using buprenorphine. Nyxoid may not completely relieve breathing problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tell your doctor<\/strong> if you have nose injuries as this may affect the way Nyxoid works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nyxoid must not be used in children and adolescents under 14 years of age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Getting Nyxoid near a delivery<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Tell your midwife or doctor<\/strong>\u00a0if you have\u00a0received Nyxoid<\/strong>\u00a0near or during\u00a0childbirth<\/strong>.\u00a0Your child may suffer from\u00a0sudden opioid withdrawal syndrome\u00a0which can be life-threatening if left untreated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Look for the following symptoms in your baby for the first 24 hours<\/strong> after the baby is born:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 seizures (epileptic seizures)<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 cries more than usual<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 increased reflexes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you are given Nyxoid while you are pregnant or breastfeeding, your baby should be closely monitored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once you have taken this medicine, you must not drive, use machines or engage in any other physically or mentally demanding activity for at least 24 hours, as the effects of opioids may recur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse has told you.\u00a0If you are not sure, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You will be shown how to use Nyxoid before accessing the medicine. Below is a step-by-step guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Instructions for how to give Nyxoid nasal spray:<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. Check consciousness and breathing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n – Check if the person can be awakened to see if the person is conscious.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n You can shout the person’s name, gently shake your shoulders, speak in a loud voice in your ear, rub the sternum, pinch their ear, or\u00a0nail bed\u00a0one on one finger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n –\u00a0Check airway and respiration.\u00a0<\/strong>Make sure your mouth and nose are free of obstructions.\u00a0Check to breathe for 10 seconds – is your chest moving?\u00a0Can you hear breathing sounds?\u00a0Can you feel the breath on your cheek?<\/p>\n\n\n\n –\u00a0Check for signs of overdose<\/strong>, eg: no reaction to touch or sound, slow uneven breathing or no breathing, snoring, wheezing, blue or purple fingernails or lips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n – Give Nyxoid if an overdose is suspected.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Call for an ambulance. <\/strong>Nyxoid does not replace emergency medical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Remove<\/strong> the back of the blister pack from the corner to remove the nasal spray<\/strong> from the container. Place the nasal spray within easy reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 4. Place the patient on his back. Support your neck and tilt your head back. Clear everything that blocks the nose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 5. Hold the nasal spray with your thumb on the underside of the plunger and your index and middle fingers on each side of the nozzle. Do not test the spray before using it<\/strong> as it contains only one dose of naloxone and cannot be reused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Carefully insert the device nozzle into one of the patient’s nostrils.\u00a0Press firmly\u00a0on the plunger\u00a0until it clicks to\u00a0give a\u00a0dose.\u00a0Remove the device nozzle from the nostril after giving one\u00a0dose.<\/p>\n\n\n\nChildren and young people<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
