Scabies and seborrheic eczema in children up to one year

}

Seborrheic eczema is mild eczema that usually occurs when the baby is a few months. Seborrheic eczema in the scalp is called a scab or milk scab. Scabies is common in children up to one year of age, but even older children can get scabies. Seborrheic eczema does not infect and usually go to treat itself.

Children in teens and adults may have a variant of seborrheic eczema which is also called spleen dermatitis.

Symptoms of seborrheic eczema in children

The child can get areas with fat yellow-brown scales in the scalp and eyebrows. Eczema can also be found around the ears, in the face, in the cervix, armpits, on the trunk and groin. There the skin often turns red.

In the scalp, yellow-brown crusts or coatings can be formed if the child has a lot of scabs and is not treated.

Seborrheic eczema does not usually itch or trouble the child in any other way, although it can be a very clear rash.

What can I do for myself?

Seborrheic eczema in the scalp and on the body can be treated in different ways.

If the child has only a little scab

Lubricate the baby’s scalp with baby oil in the evening if it is not so much scab and you want to remove it. In the morning, wash your scalp with mild, unpainted baby shampoo. After that, gently rub the scalp with a towel to remove the scab.

You can also lubricate the scalp with agents containing borage oil. The oil can be bought at pharmacies and in stores that have children’s items.

Repeat treatment if the scar returns.

If the child has a jab that is stuck

Lubricate with salicylic acid oil or salicylic acid vaseline 1% in the evening to soften the mountains if the child has a stuck scab. They are available to buy prescriptions at pharmacies. In the morning, carefully remove the mountains with a towel, brush or comb. Then wash your hair with mild, unpainted baby shampoo. The treatment may need to be done several times.

You can put a towel under the baby’s head or put on a thin cap if you want to protect your bedding from getting sticky.

If the child has seborrheic eczema on the body

Try lubricating the rash with cream or ointment with hydrocortisone, which can be purchased without a prescription at a pharmacy. Ask a doctor for advice before using hydrocortisone in a child younger than 2 years.

When and where should I seek care?

You can get advice at the childcare center, bvc, if a small child has a lot of crap.

Contact bvc if the rashes are scaly and red.

Contact a  health care center or bvc if any of the following is true:

  • The child has rashes that itch or trouble.
  • You have been treating your child with hydrocortisone for a week without the hassles getting better.
  • The rashes are fluid or sore.

You should understand the information

In order for you to be involved in your care and treatment, it is important that you understand the information you receive from the healthcare staff. Ask questions if you don’t understand. For example, you should receive information about treatment options and how long you may have to wait for care and treatment.

Children should also be involved in their care. The older the child, the more important it is.

What does cormorant depend on?

It is not clear what the scar in young children is due to, but research shows that it is probably due to a lack of fat in the skin and that the protection of the skin decreases. This defect grows away over time and then the scab disappears. It can take time, usually one to two years. But some children may have scabs that go back up to the age of six. In some children, the scab can disappear and then come back.

Another cause may be a yeast fungus that is normally found on the skin and scalp. The fungus is found in larger quantities in children who have seborrheic eczema.
